Winery Château Hosanna

Château Hosanna is part of the prestigious Moueix portfolio and is situated in an exceptional location in the heart of Pomerol. The estate was formed in the late 1990s from a merger of historic plots and has since built a reputation as a producer of powerful yet refined Pomerols. The vineyards benefit from a terroir with red and blue clay, gravel, and ferrous subsoils, resulting in depth, complexity, and striking aromatic intensity. The wine and blend

The 2025 Château Hosanna consists of 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc. The high presence of Cabernet Franc plays a key role in the wine's freshness, structure, and aromatic complexity. While Merlot provides the rich texture and deep fruit expression, Cabernet Franc delivers tension, floral nuances, and extra length.

Vineyard, terroir and vintage

The Hosanna vineyards are among the most favorably situated in Pomerol. The combination of clay and gravel offered sufficient protection against drought stress during the warm and dry growing season of 2025, allowing the grapes to retain their freshness and aromatic precision.

The result is a wine that possesses the concentration of the vintage, yet remains remarkably balanced. Several critics point to the combination of power and refinement, where the wine, despite its intensity, never comes across as heavy or sluggish.

Vinification and aging

As is customary at Hosanna, a meticulous plot selection is employed, along with a vinification aimed at preserving fruit purity and terroir expression. Extraction remains controlled to preserve the silky texture of the tannins, while allowing the natural concentration of the vintage to fully come into its own.

Color, smell and taste

Deep ruby red in color. The nose opens with intense aromas of wild blueberries, blackberries, and cassis, followed by notes of clove, licorice, dark chocolate, espresso, and subtle spices. As the wine opens up, additional layers of black olive, coffee beans, and floral accents emerge.

On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with impressive concentration. The texture is creamy and silky, supported by refined, open tannins. Dark fruit, cocoa, spices, and subtle minerality are carried by a fresh core that gives the wine tension and energy. Despite the richness, the balance remains exemplary. The finish is long, powerful, and at the same time remarkably refined.

Château Hosanna is located in the heart of Pomerol, in close proximity to some of the most famous wineries in Pomerol such as Château Petrus and Vieux-Château Certan. One of the most famous vintages of Château Hosanna is the Château Hosanna 2009, rated by many international reviewers with a very high point score.

The Château Hosanna estate has 4.5 hectares of territory, of which 70% is made up of Merlot vines and 30% of Cabernet Franc. Some Cabernet Franc vines have been on the territory since the mid-19th century. The vines are established on blue clay soils and red gravel on a so-called "crasse de fer" soil type, which is considered a fundamental element in the production of Pomerol wine.

The history of Château Hosanna dates back to the 16th century, when the De Mey family planted the first vines of Pomerol. The château was originally named as "Château Certan Giraud", which at the time was believed by many to have produced the best crus in Pomerol.

Château Certan Giraud consisted of two demarcated pieces of land, which were split after the château was taken over by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1999. One of the pieces of estate was called Château Hosanna and the other Château Certan Marzelle. The latter was later resold, with which Château Hosanna has continued the success story of Jean-Pierre Moueix!
