Description
Roeno is situated on the border of Veneto and Alto Adige, east of Lake Garda. The family business was founded in the 1960s by Rolando Fugatti, who has since passed it on to the 2nd generation: Roberta, Cristina and Giuseppe. Roeno makes fresh, mountain-pure wines, characteristic of the region. They use the local specialty, Gewürztraminer and make surprising red wines from the local grape varieties Marzemino and Terdoldego. They also use Müller Thurgau, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay.
The small DOC of Valdadige Terra dei Forte, located in the south of Trento in the slightly larger region of Valdadige, has three characteristic wines: Pinot Grigio, Lambrusco and the red wine Casetta and nowadays also more Chardonnay as the relatively cool high-altitude area provides elegance to Chardonnay.
This Roeno Pinot Grigio (Pinot Gris) comes from the 'Tera Alta' vineyard in Valdadige. The grapes are picked by hand. After fermentation, part of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, which converts the sharp (malic) acids into softer (lactic) acids. The rest of the wine continues to mature in stainless steel tanks on the lees ('sur lie'), which softens the wine and adds complexity. The Pinot Grigio Tera Alta is lemon yellow with notes of tropical fruit and pear in the nose. In the mouth, the wine is very elegant with a nice balance between fresh acids and tropical fruit. Clearly more elegant and fresher given the somewhat cooler area. Due to the nice balance between the fruit and the acids and the fact that the alcohol percentages are always very controlled, this is the perfect aperitif, but also very tasty with shellfish and crustaceans.
The Roeno Pinot Grigio Tera Alta is an expressive and mineral white wine with fresh acids and a subtle spicy undertone. This style lends itself perfectly to refined, light dishes such as:
Sea bass carpaccio with lime and fennel
Salad with green asparagus, goat cheese and roasted pine nuts
Risotto with lemon and green herbs
Pasta alle vongole or other shellfish dishes
Sushi and sashimi with white fish or shrimp
Grilled vegetable dish with olive oil and thyme
Lightly smoked trout or salmon with a fresh herb salad
The wine is particularly good with dishes in which freshness and delicate flavours are central. Serve slightly chilled at 8–10°C for the best expression of aroma and structure.

Roeno is situated on the border of Veneto and Alto Adige east of Lake Garda. The family business was founded in the 1960s by Rolando Fugatti, who has since passed it on to the 2nd generation: Roberta, Cristina and Giuseppe. Roeno makes fresh, mountain wines, characteristic of the region. They use the local specialty, Gewürztraminer and make surprising rodea wines from the local grape varieties Marzemino and Teroldego. They also use Müller Thurgau, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay.
The name Roeno is a deduction of founder Rolando's name, with the Greek word Enos, meaning "wine". The winery is located about 30 kilometers north of Garda, literally on the border between Veneto and Alto Adige. However, the winery's focus is on the terroir of Alto Adige. Founded in the 1960s, Roeno quickly became known among the locals for its good restaurant. Roeno particularly caught our eye because of the quality wines from limestone-rich terroirs.
Roeno has vineyards in several regions of origin, including the relatively young IGP Vallagarina for the Marzemino and Teroldego. The Rìvoli area, situated between the town of Affi and the headquarters in Brentino Belluno, is considered by Roeno to be the top area for Pinot Grigio. Roeno makes an almost ruddy colored Pinot Grigio there, which is lightly aged in wood. A real specialty!
The vineyards are nestled on the border between Veneto and Trentino, in the land known as "Terra dei Forti" The winery is surrounded by mountain slopes flanking the Adige River. A land of (no) borders, two words rich in fascination and references, cultural confluences and intertwined lives. The vineyards are all pearls on the banks of the River Adige, between Monte Baldo and the Lessinia plateau. Beyond the Terradeiforti Doc denomination, the vineyards extend to the municipality of Affi and the municipality of Caprino Veronese. Further north, however, they reach the province of Trento, which puts them within the Trentino Doc specification.
