Located in Meursault, the estate enjoys an excellent reputation for its pure style, precision, and terroir-oriented approach. Today, the next generation is at the helm, combining tradition with a modern vision of viticulture. The estate operates organically and focuses on healthy vineyards, low yields, and the most natural expression of the terroir possible. You can find more information about this winery in the Winery tab.

Origin and terroir

Domaine Matrot's Bourgogne Blanc is produced from various plots in the Côte de Beaune. The vineyards benefit from the calcareous soils so characteristic of this region. Limestone plays an important role in the wine's final character, providing tension, freshness, and subtle minerality. Thanks to Burgundy's temperate climate, the grapes retain their natural acidity, while sufficient sunshine ensures optimal ripeness and aromatic expression.

Grapes and vineyard management

This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay. Domaine Matrot has been working according to organic principles for years and pays close attention to soil health and biodiversity in the vineyards. Through careful vineyard management and precise selection during the harvest, the result is fruit with an excellent balance between ripeness, freshness, and aromatic concentration. The focus is always on purity and preserving the character of the grape and its origin.

Vinification and aging

After the harvest, the grapes are gently pressed to preserve maximum finesse. Fermentation takes place traditionally, with great attention to maintaining freshness and terroir expression. Typically, a portion of the wine ages in used French oak barrels, while another portion is aged in tanks. This creates a harmonious balance between fruit, structure, and subtle complexity. During aging, sur lie maturation contributes extra texture, depth, and refinement without the wine losing its lively character.

Color, smell and taste

The wine presents itself with a bright light yellow color. On the nose, aromas of citrus, green apple, ripe pear, and white flowers dominate. Additionally, subtle notes of almond, brioche, and wet limestone are present. On the palate, the wine combines a fresh start with a soft texture and refined minerality. The Chardonnay reveals itself as pure and precise, with a beautiful tension that provides length and elegance in the finish.

Style and character

The Bourgogne Blanc from Domaine Matrot is known for its classic style. No excessive oak or heavy structure, but rather freshness, balance, and drinking pleasure. The wine possesses sufficient concentration to be gastronomically versatile, while the lively acidity ensures accessibility in its youth. This is Bourgogne Blanc as many enthusiasts like to see it: refined, energetic, and terroir-driven.

Volume

The 2024 vintage in Burgundy is characterized by a classic style with an emphasis on freshness and aromatic precision. Although the final technical specifications for this wine are not yet available, the style is expected to align well with the philosophy of Domaine Matrot. The wine will likely provide great pleasure when young, but also possesses sufficient structure to develop further for several years. The expected drinking window runs from 2026 to 2030. Food and wine pairings

This Bourgogne Blanc pairs excellently with shellfish, grilled fish, sushi, poultry, and salads with goat cheese. Classic dishes such as trout, sea bass, or chicken with a light cream sauce also complement the wine's fresh and mineral style beautifully. Thanks to its balance and elegance, it is also a versatile wine for aperitifs and light meals.

Domaine Matrot is a prestigious wine producer located in the heart of the Burgundian wine region in France. The history of Domaine Matrot goes back several generations. It started at the end of the 19th century when Joseph Matrot founded the estate in Meursault, a renowned village for producing exceptional Chardonnay wines.

Over the years, the Matrot family has painstakingly cultivated and expanded their vineyards, acquiring prime plots of land in some of Burgundy's most prized appellations, including Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Volnay. This strategic acquisition of vineyards has enabled Domaine Matrot to produce a wide range of high-quality wines that showcase the unique terroir of each vineyard location. Domaine Matrot is known for its traditional winemaking techniques, prioritizing minimal intervention to allow the expression of the terroir and the characteristics of the grape varieties to shine through in the final wines. They typically ferment their wines using indigenous yeasts and age them in French oak barrels to add complexity and structure while respecting the delicate nuances of the fruit.

The estate has been passed down through several generations of the Matrot family, each contributing their expertise and passion for winemaking to uphold the domain's reputation for excellence. Today, Domaine Matrot is run by the current generation of the family, who continue to uphold the estate's traditions while embracing modern developments in viticulture and winemaking. Domaine Matrot consistently produces wines that reflect Burgundy's unique terroir and skill.
