Château Troplong Mondot 2024 – Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé

Château Troplong Mondot is situated at the highest point of Saint-Émilion and boasts an exceptional terroir of limestone and ferruginous clay. The 33-hectare vineyard forms an amphitheater around the château, benefiting from excellent exposure and drainage. This unique location contributes to the wine's characteristic freshness, tension, and mineral undertones.

Grapes and blend of the 2024 Troplong Mondot

The 2024 vintage is composed of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. This blend emphasizes the rich, juicy fruit of the Merlot, the refinement and aromatic lift of the Cabernet Franc, and a subtle structural enhancement of the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Harvest and vinification
The harvest took place between September 25th and October 4th. Thanks to the grapes' airy cluster structure, full ripening could be achieved without risk of rot. Vinification was carried out without chaptalization, with a strong focus on precision and terroir expression. Aging took place in 55% new French oak barrels, 26% large foudres, and 19% one-year-old barrels – a balanced approach that allows the wine's character to fully express itself.

Tasting note of Troplong Mondot 2024

Troplong Mondot 2024 presents itself with a deep ruby-red color and an expressive nose of black cherries, cassis, violets, lavender, menthol, and a hint of licorice. On the palate, the wine is silky and layered, with ripe, fine-grained tannins and a striking chalky minerality. The structure is taut and lively, with a long, salty, and elegant finish.

Style and potential
This vintage confirms the estate's shift in style toward greater finesse and terroir-driven character. The wine is powerful without being heavy, with a natural freshness and great precision. Troplong Mondot 2024 is a wine with a clear signature and impressive complexity, which will develop beautifully in the cellar until at least 2065.

The slogan at Château Troplong Mondot is: TROPLONG MONDOT CANNOT BE EXPLAINED: IT NEEDS TO BE LIVED. Château Troplong Mondot was the first Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Emilion. It is a special place and  manages its territory like  a garden cultivated vineyard  Located at the highest point of the appellation, this 43-hectare estate is fully exposed. The terroir of Ch. Troplong Mondot is located atop the highest point of the Côte Pavie, in Saint Laurent de Combes, where the greatest wines of Saint Emilion are made.

The history of this 1er Grand Cru Classé goes back to 1745 when it was still called Domaine de Mondot and was part of Château Pavie, now 1er Grand Cru Classé A. With the arrival of Raymond Troplong in 1850, the two names were merged and Château Troplong Mondot was a fact. Wine merchant Alexandre Valette bought the castle in the early 1900s. Christine Valette-Pariente and her husband Xavier Pariente sold the castle to the insurance company SCOR in 2017, after which it has undergone a true renaissance under the leadership of Aymeric de Gironde. The oenologist guru Michel Rolland has also been employed here since 1980. The Les Belles Perdrix restaurant will open there in June 2021 and will be awarded a Michelin star in 2022.
