2022 Château Troplong Mondot Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé Magnum

The history of this 1er Grand Cru Classé dates back to 1745, when it was still called Domaine de Mondot and was part of Château Pavie, now 1er Grand Cru Classé A. With the arrival of Raymond Troplong in 1850, the two names merged, creating Château Troplong Mondot. Château Troplong Mondot was the first Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion. This 43-hectare estate, situated at the highest point of the appellation, is fully exposed to the sun. The terroir of Ch. Troplong Mondot lies at the top of the Côte Pavie, in Saint Laurent de Combes, where Saint-Émilion's finest wines are made. The soil is rich in limestone and planted with 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvesting is entirely manual. Maturation takes place for 18 months in barriques, 75% of which are new. The famous oenologist Michel Rolland has been guiding this winery since 1980.

The Troplong Mondot 2022 is a blend of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Cabernet Franc. It boasts highly appealing aromas of plum and chocolate with hints of raspberry and hazelnut. It's fresh and even savory with a medium to full body. A broad tannin structure builds on the palate, with a long finish. One of the top wines of 2022, ranking above the St. Emilion. This is a 1.5-liter magnum—even more delicious, festive, and with a longer drinking window.

The wines come directly from the Chateau's cellars to our climate-controlled warehouse in Dordrecht, where all our wines are stored.
