Description
Mondot, the other wine from Château Troplong Mondot, is the expression of a dedicated limestone terroir located on the edge of the estate. It is an introduction to the style of Troplong Mondot, revealing an intense energy and aromatic expression with elegance. As far as we are concerned, a wine that, given its much better price than its big brother (or sister), is an absolute must. The Mondot Mondot is also distributed via Place du Bordeaux. Relaxing in the glass with aromas of sweet blackberry and raspberry mixed with hints of rose petals and herbs, the Mondot 2020 is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a pure, seamless core of vibrant fruit and a long, juicy finish. Sourced from Merlot grown on recently acquired vineyards on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, approximately 40% of the blend is aged in tanks, the remainder in used barriques.
The history of this 1er Grand Cru Classé goes back to 1745 when it was still called Domaine de Mondot and was part of Château Pavie, now 1er Grand Cru Classé A. With the arrival of Raymond Troplong in 1850, the two names were merged and Château Troplong Mondot was a fact. Château Troplong Mondot was the first Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Emilion. This 43 hectare estate, located at the highest point of the appellation, is fully exposed. The terroir of Ch. Troplong Mondot is located at the highest point of the Côte Pavie, in Saint Laurent de Combes, where the greatest wines of Saint Emilion are made. The soil is rich in limestone and planted with 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvesting is done entirely manually. Maturation takes place for 18 months in barriques, 75% of which are new. The famous oenologist Michel Rolland has been guiding this winery since 1980.
