Description
A FIRST - EXPECTED JULY/AUGUST 2025
Château Rieussec belongs together with Château d'Yquem to the absolute top among the Sauternes wines. Rieussec has the status of 1st Grand Cru 1855. Rieussec is owned by Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild. In addition to the well-known sweet dessert wine from Sauternes, they also make a very nice dry white wine. The R de Rieussec.
The R de Rieussec 2024 is a refined dry white wine from the heart of the Sauternes, originating from the prestigious Château Rieussec. This wine combines the best of Sauvignon Blanc (65%) and Sémillon (35%), resulting in an expressive, complex and perfectly balanced Bordeaux Blanc.
Tasting notes:
On the nose, R de Rieussec opens with an elegant scent of citrus fruits , white peach and a subtle floral touch . The wood aging adds a delicate complexity without being overpowering.
In the mouth you experience a round and pure attack , with a freshness that provides nice tension and length. The soft bitterness and a hint of salty minerality in the aftertaste complete the whole and provide a wine that is both refined and lively.
Vinification:
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully vinified, with part of the wine maturing in new and used oak barrels and another part in stainless steel tanks . This gives the wine a perfect balance between freshness, fruit and subtle wood notes.
Wine and food combinations:
Grilled sea bass with lemon and fresh herbs
The salty minerality of the wine complements the freshness of the fish and the lemon accent beautifully.
Salad with goat cheese, peach and honey dressing
The citrus and peach aromas of the wine enhance the soft goat cheese and the sweet element of the honey.
Risotto with green asparagus and Parmesan cheese
The creaminess of the risotto is nicely balanced by the fresh acidity of the wine, while the salty aftertaste goes perfectly with the Parmesan.
Shrimp in garlic butter
The roundness and freshness of the wine cut nicely through the fattiness of the butter and accentuate the seafood.
Chicken with tarragon cream sauce
The delicate spiciness of tarragon and the soft creaminess of the sauce complement the fresh and lightly wood-aged character of the wine.

Reimagined in a more vibrant style, in a Burgundy/Loire bottle, the 2021 R de Rieussec exhibits scents of citrus oil, gooseberry and botanicals, followed by a medium-bodied, bright and vibrant palate, with tangy acids and a nicely defined finish. It's an attractive middleweight that avoids the pungently varietal, heavily sulfitic caricatural style so prevalent in contemporary Bordeaux, while managing to reinvent what was historically a rather richer, more fruit-driven wine.
