The L'Eglise Clinet boasts impressive concentration for its vintage, with dusty tannins that provide density and intensity. Medium-bodied, it boasts notes of dark fruit and chocolate, along with nuances of walnut and hazelnut. Juicy and full-bodied, yet always with restraint. Winemaker Noémie Durantou Reilhac compares it to the 2015, but with greater finesse. 90% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. According to Jane Aneson, this is the red wine of the 2024 vintage.

ABOUT L'EGLISE CLINET

L'Eglise Clinet is a prestigious winery in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, France. It is known for producing some of the most sought-after and highly regarded wines in the world. L'Eglise Clinet's vineyards cover approximately 4.2 hectares and are situated on Pomerol's renowned clay and gravel soils. These soils are ideal for growing Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the estate's main grape varieties. It's also worth noting that L'Eglise Clinet's vineyards border those of Château Pétrus, so where L'Eglise Clinet ends, Pétrus begins. L'Eglise Clinet is located in the heart of Pomerol, a small but highly renowned wine region on the right bank of the Dordogne River. The winery has a rich history dating back to the 19th century. The vineyard was formed in its current form in the mid-20th century by the Mauléon and Rouchut families.

History

Château L'Eglise Clinet has a long history dating back to the 19th century. The current estate was created in 1955 when it was formed by the merger of the vineyards of Clos L'Eglise and Château Clinet. Since then, it has developed into one of the top producers in Pomerol.

Vineyard and Terroir

The vineyard area of Château L'Eglise Clinet covers about 4.5 hectares and is located on the famous Pomerol plateau. The vineyards are planted with mainly Merlot (about 85%) and a smaller percentage of Cabernet Franc (about 15%). The soil consists of a mixture of clay and gravel, which is ideal for growing these grape varieties and adds to the complexity and depth of the wines.

Winemaking

Denis Durantou, who managed the estate until his passing in 2020, was known for his meticulous attention to detail and his pursuit of perfection. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete barrels, and the wine is then aged in French oak barrels, a significant portion of which is renewed annually.

Wines

The wines of Château L'Eglise Clinet are known for their rich and complex aromas, which often include notes of blackcurrant, plum, chocolate, truffle, and spices. They have a powerful yet elegant structure with fine tannins and excellent aging potential. These wines can often age for decades and improve with time.

Property

After Denis Durantou's death, the estate is managed by his daughters, who continue his legacy and maintain the high quality standards he set.
