The El Nido from the eponymous winery is among Spain's top 25 wines. A top-notch wine from the Juan Gill estate. An average of only 5,000 bottles of El Nido are produced, making it rare, unique, and incomparable. An absolute gem, vinified by grandmaster Chris Ringland (a 100/100 rating at Parker).
El Nido was produced with a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Monastrell, fermented in stainless steel with neutral yeasts and aged for 23 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. It is a ripe, powerful, and intoxicating Mediterranean red with generous oak, produced in a very specific style. This is intoxicating and ripe, incredibly powerful with concentration and impact, yet balanced. Just like with Clio, the oak integration is simply superb. This has all the ingredients and balance for beautiful and long-lasting bottle development. It must be one of the finest vintages for El Nido. An average of only 5,000 bottles of El Nido are produced, making it rare, unique, and incomparable. Very limited.

The 2023 El Nido was produced with a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon from 12 hectares planted in 1986 and 30% Monastrell from 32 hectares of vines with an average age of 76 years. It fermented in small stainless steel tanks with neutral yeasts and matured in new French and American oak barrels. It's very similar to the Clio from this same vintage—all about the barrels, spices, toast and smoke, creamy and woody. It has 15.5% alcohol, higher than in 2022, a pH of 3.62 and 6.2 grams of acidity and a bone-dry finish with plenty of tannins. Will it ever absorb the oak? 4,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2025.

The 2023 Clio is composed of 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon from Jumilla. It was aged for 23 months in French and American oak barrels. Recently bottled, the oak is at the forefront but will integrate. The wine opens with plum, soft herbal notes and blackberry. Intense with fruit complexity, the palate is creamy, flavorful and delicate in tannins, finishing with a touch of oak that will meld with time.

Miguel Gil, recorded owner of the top domain Juan Gil, chose quality over quantity in Jumila, undiscovered for years, out of respect and love for his region (and great wine!) For the mini project of Bodegas El Nido, he calls on the Australian top winemaker Chris Ringland (at Parker good for 100/100…) 2 wines are made at this small Bodega: Clio & El Nido. The 16 ha Monastrell followed of 60 years old perched on terraces oriented northeast. Furthermore, 25 years ago, 12 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon were planted on the hills with an oblique north in the same region. Today, these unique top quality mature grapes, magnificently bred by the Gil-Ringland duo, offer the most aristocratic wines in Spain.
The entire international wine press is unanimous in its assessment of the El Nido and Clio wines. Unprecedentedly good and fitting to the top of Spanish wines. In absolute terms, the El Nido and the Clio are not cheap, but in relative terms (eg compared to top Bordeaux) the Clio and Nido cost a fraction and therefore have an unprecedented good price / quality. In our beautiful selection of wines, the El Nido and Clio should not be missing in the opinion of Miquel and Juan Gil.
