Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII Brut from Maastricht is a refined sparkling wine with a fine mousse, fresh acidity, and a remarkably broad aromatic profile.

Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII Brut from Maastricht

De Apostelhoeve, situated on the sunny slopes of the Louwberg near Maastricht, is one of the most renowned wine estates in the Netherlands. The combination of calcareous marl soils and a cool climate produces wines with freshness, tension, and distinct minerality. With the Cuvée XII Brut, the estate demonstrates that sparkling wine from South Limburg can also have its own distinctive style.

Blend of Auxerrois, Riesling and Pinot Gris

This sparkling wine is a blend of 50% Auxerrois, 25% Riesling, and 25% Pinot Gris. Auxerrois provides roundness and softness, Riesling brings freshness and tension, while Pinot Gris adds structure and ripe fruit. This combination results in a wine with both elegance and breadth, in which fruit and freshness are beautifully balanced.

Style and vinification

The Cuvée XII Brut is crafted in a fresh, refined style with an emphasis on balance and drinkability. The fine mousse and lively acidity give the wine energy and precision, while the influence of the calcareous soil provides subtle minerality. The whole remains elegant and accessible, with sufficient depth for gastronomic use.

Color, aroma and taste of Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII Brut

In the glass, the wine has a brilliant light yellow color with a fine, persistent mousse. The aroma is rich and expressive, with notes of blossom and tropical fruit, complemented by nuances of almond and a light hint of rose. On the palate, the wine is broad and refined, with lively acidity and a soft mousse. The taste is layered, with ripe fruit and a distinct mineral touch derived from the marl soils. The finish is long, fresh, and elegant.

Wine and food

This brut is versatile. Perfect as an aperitif, but also suitable with shellfish, light fish dishes, sushi, or refined starters. Thanks to its fresh acidity and light roundness, it also pairs well with dishes featuring subtle creaminess or spiciness.

Wijngaard Apostelhoeve is one of the most famous and beautiful vineyards in the Netherlands. The winery is located south of the city of Maastricht on the Louwberg, an extension of the Cannerberg on the west side of the Jeker valley.

Wine grapes were grown in the Jeker valley as early as the Middle Ages. Around 1600 the 'Little Ice Age' ended this. Hugo Hulst, fruit grower, decided to build another vineyard at De Apostelhoeve in 1970. As a result, Apostelhoeve has now become the oldest functioning wine company in the Netherlands. Currently, this beautiful winery has an area of 6 hectares that is used for viticulture.

The soil consisting of pebble and marl with a layer of loess on top lends itself perfectly to the grape varieties: pinot gris, riesling, auxerrois and rivaner. Only white wines are made from these grape varieties, which are related in style and production to wines from Alsace and which also have a wonderful fresh, mineral taste.

Wijnhuis Apostelhoeve always works very carefully with all its processes. Take, for example, the harvest of the grapes. This is seen by this wine house as one of the most crucial steps in the winemaking process. The time of harvest is mainly determined by the ripeness of the grape, as measured by sugar, acid and tannin levels with winemakers making their decision to choose according to the wine style they want to produce. The weather can also be the roster of harvesting with the threat of heat, rain, hail and frost that can damage the grapes and cause various vine diseases.
