The grapes for Almaviva are hand-picked in the Puente Alto vineyard and transported in small crates to the winery. After destemming, selection takes place using both laser and human eye to ensure only the best grapes remain. These are gently crushed and then transferred by gravity only into stainless steel vats for fermentation. Viña Almaviva was born in 1997 from a partnership between Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and Don Alfonso Larrain, President of Viña Concha y Toro. The Viña Almaviva project was born from the ambition to create a great Chilean wine, combining French winemaking expertise with the unique expression of this Central Valley terroir.
The Almaviva vineyard is located in the heart of Chile's beautiful Maipo Valley and covers 50 hectares. The grape varieties of the Bordeaux vineyards flourish in this exceptional terroir. Almaviva has now become a benchmark for great Central Valley wines around the world.
The 2022 Almaviva begins with a subdued woody aroma, with savoury notes of roasted peppers and pleasant top notes of lavender and dried herbs. The palate is dense, opulent and intense, with considerable concentration and richness. The finish continues this opulent, layered richness, closing with supple, firm, unyielding tannins, supported by fresh acidity and spicy, menthol-tinged accents. Despite the immediate richness, the wine is quite closed, and it will take a few years for the impressive tannins to integrate further. However, it will be a pleasure to watch the wine develop over the next decade and beyond. This wine is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Carménère, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, matured for 20 months in 70% new French oak.
The wine is named after the hero of the play Le Marriage de Figaro.
"The palate is dense, luscious and staining, with considerable concentration and opulence… it should be a joy to watch develop over the coming decade and beyond." – Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
“So complex and sophisticated (…) It's all about elegance and class. There's harmony and freshness for a dry year. 99 pts” – James Suckling

The 2024 Almaviva ranks as the most impressive and definitive iteration of the wine I have tasted to date. The nose delivers a degree of nuance, refinement and complexity that other vintages have glimpsed but never fully attained, seamlessly fusing incense, pipe tobacco, sage, sweet red pepper and singed cedar aromas with impeccable harmony and a graceful overall nature. On the palate, a classically suave, gourmand mouthfeel is energized by an uncommon vibrancy, flowing into a reverberant, saturated finish that lingers with filigreed tannins and a strident core of graphite-laden minerality. The blend is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with about 25% Carmenère, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

Vintage
2024
The 2024 Almaviva shows subtle exuberance with its hallmark restrained sweetness, with good depth of complexity and generosity. A touch of cedar and tobacco with sweet currants, berries and subtlety. Round and medium- to full-bodied, with the depth of cabernet sauvignon marrying the sweet spices from the carmenere. Structured yet fine-grained and polished. Very long finish. 70% cabernet sauvignon, 24% carmenere, 4% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. Drink after 2027.

From: Chile: A Recalibration in the Heartlands of Maipo (Jul 2026)
The 2024 Almaviva (70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Carménère, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot) from Puente Alto was aged for 18 months in French oak, 76% new. It opens with a dark-fruited profile of blackberry and blueberry, layered with plum, balsamic notes, chutney-like spice, licorice and fine oak. The warm vintage reinforces this darker, riper aromatic register, in line with the estate's mature style. On the palate, Puente Alto's gravel soils and Andean setting play a defining role, delivering rounded, polished tannins and textural finesse. Broad and slightly indulgent, the wine shows fine, lightly plush yet still reactive tannins, as it was recently bottled, and sustains the finish with delicate fruit. Here, vintage and house style align, resulting in a poised and expressive 2024.

The name Almaviva, although it has a Spanish sonority, belongs to classic French literature: Count Almaviva is the hero of The Marriage of Figaro, the famous play by Beaumarchais (1732-1799), later turned into an opera by Mozart's genius . The label, meanwhile, pays homage to Chile's ancestral history, with 3 reproductions of a stylized design, symbolizing the vision of the earth and cosmos in the Mapuche civilization. The label bears the name Almaviva in Beaumarchais' own handwriting. Two great traditions thus join forces.
The Château concept was introduced to France in the 19th century as a way of honoring the creative mastery of Bordeaux winegrowers. Almaviva was the first wine in Chile to be created according to this French Château concept, taking into account an exceptional terroir, a unique bodega and a technical team dedicated exclusively to the production of wines of unparalleled quality and excellence.
