Description
Albamar Ceibo
El Ceibo is the first wine from the Valdeorras project, made with 100% godello and partially aged in oak barrels for eight months. The Ceibo has beautiful characteristics, with its light, creamy, chiffon lemon fruit, a soft blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, and oak notes. Underneath, there's fine fruit, and the wine slowly transitions towards peach and papaya flavors. Medium straw yellow in color, it has an attractive nose of minerals, herbs, pear, and peach. Concentrated, spicy, and dry with an exceptionally fruity character. This has distinct Burgundian characteristics, with one major difference: the price. Very limited production, with an average of only 6,500 bottles.
Albamar Winery
Albamar is a family winery that began its journey about 25 years ago. Albamar places great importance on caring for its vineyards and producing Albariño wines with unique character and personality. In 2006, one of the family's children took over the reins of the winery; Xurxo Alba Padín, who dedicated himself body and soul to winemaking. From that moment on, the company was called Bodegas Albamar, a fusion of the family name and the proximity of its vineyards to the sea, and which, in turn, became integrated into the Rías Baixas region.

The 2024 Ceibo is the one white that is completely different from the rest, as this was produced with Godello grapes from Valdeorras, inland in Galicia. It's perfumed and peachy and faintly balsamic, with notes of bay leaf, and it has a round palate with a bitter twist in the finish.
As I often explain, tasting the wide range from Xurxo Alba Padín is always like a fun rollercoaster ride; the wines have personality and are different. The range only seems to be getting wider and wider. He has 10 hectares of vines and buys some grapes, mostly from the village of Castrelo, and he produces 110,000 to 125,000 bottles, depending on the vintage.

The 2024 Godello Ceibo from Valdeorras finished fermentation in foudres, where it also aged. This opens with clear apple and pear aromas, plus linden blossom and light floral tones. It is broad yet fresh, with an unctuous texture and a faint talc note on the finish. This is delicate overall.
