Description
Paul Cluver Estate Pinot Noir is a wonderfully complex Pinot Noir from a "cool-climate" area and therefore resembles a beautiful burgundy. This wine has a beautiful light clear color like a burgundy. The nose has delicate earthy almond aromas combined with cranberry, pomegranate and raspberry. In the mouth the silky tannins stand out, fresh acids and some savory notes in the aftertaste. combined with seaweed, umami savory flavors. Beautiful wine from one of the most beautiful winemakers from South Africa. This Eatate Pinot Noir should not be confused with the regular (village) Pinot Noir. This is the cream of the crop
FACT: The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you come to pick up the wine you will also receive a nice discount. You will see your discount immediately when you choose Pick up in Checkout page. We are almost next to the Rijksweg with plenty of parking. Click here for our address.

Wind affected the flowing of the 2013 Pinot Noir. It also marked the first time that a new gentler destemmer was used at the winery. It was picked between February 10 - March 2 and sees 15% new oak like the previous year. It has a more refined bouquet compared to the 2012 – more clarity and detail here with red cherries, pomegranate, cranberry and floral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, silkier in the mouth with a pure and very caressing finish. This is a serious step-up from the 2012. Excellent.
Enormous, beautiful estate - tick. Talented winemaker - tick. Great quality wines - tick. Unbeatable value - tick. Wild leopards roaming at night - tick. Paul Cluver really is doing everything right. Much is down to how winemaker Andries Burger has steered this estate in recent years, to such a position where they would rank in my top ten of great values not just in South Africa, but the world. Even the varieties that often trip winemakers up such as Pinot Noir and Riesling, are well crafted here and attached with wallet-friendly price tags. "We are increasing the wild ferment for the Pinot Noir," Andries told me, "and my aim is for total natural ferment. The oak management is also being refined." Things are going to get even better.

Paul Cluver is located in Elgin, one of the coolest regions of South Africa. Paul Clüver is originally an apple company, but since 1986, on the initiative of owner Paul Clüver, also a wine company. Due to its location in a very cool area, directly by the sea, wines are made here with a remarkable finesse and freshness. Third generation starts with wine. The estate of the Clüver family, De Rust, was acquired in 1896 by the grandfather of the current owner, Paul Clüver.
Soil samples were taken during the 1980s, which showed that viticulture was perfectly possible here. It was then decided to replace part of the apple orchards with vineyards. It was initially agreed to process the grapes into wine on the Nederburg Estate, one of the
most famous houses of the Cape. The first grapes were planted in 1986: Sauvigon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Weisser Riesling. The latter grape has been planted to make sweet wines with the help of noble rot. The estate's wines are now entirely made in-house to give them their own character. Andries Burger, the winemaker of Paul Clüver, is responsible. Dr. Paul Clüver himself is still involved in his own profession: neurosurgery.
