Description
The Niellon family has a long history of winemaking, dating back to the 19th century when it was founded by Michel Niellon's grandfather, Léon Niellon. In the 1960s, Michel Niellon took over the family business from his father, Marcel Niellon, and continued the tradition of producing exceptional Burgundian wines. The estate has six hectares of vineyards, primarily located in the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation. The vineyards are situated at varying altitudes between 200 and 400 meters, contributing to the unique character of their wines.
Domaine Michel Niellon is characterized by meticulous attention to detail. Both the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are hand-picked and rigorously selected for quality. Fermentation is initiated using the natural yeasts present on the grape skins. The wines are aged in French oak barrels, with a portion of new wood (typically 15% to 30%). Malolactic fermentation and sur lie also take place in these wooden barrels. Domaine Michel Niellon is known for producing high-quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines. Their iconic wine, the Bâtard-Montrachet, is highly regarded. Moreover, the Chassagne-Montrachet wines from these products are known worldwide for their exceptional quality.
One of Burgundy's Premier Cru estates of the year is Niellon. A classic Chardonnay from Chassagne Montrachet, this estate has quietly emerged in recent years as a producer of top wines. The Chassagne-Montrachet Village has beautiful definition and precision on the nose, with hints of dried yellow flowers complementing the citrus fruit, and well-integrated oak. The palate is very well-balanced with a lively, orange-peel, mandarin-tinged entrance. It is quite linear and taut, with an almost Puligny-like tension on the finish.
The bottles are equipped with an NFC tag/chip - This allows the bottles to be checked for authenticity.

From: Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)
The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Village has wonderful definition and precision on the nose, hints of dried yellow flowers complementing the citrus fruit, the oak well integrated. The palate is very well balanced with a vibrant, orange-zest- and tangerine-tinged entry. It’s quite linear and taut, with an almost Puligny-like tension on the finish. This comes recommended. Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in London.
