How does this wine taste?

How full and heavy the wine feels in your mouth, like the difference between skimmed milk and cream. More alcohol, sugar and oak ageing make a wine fuller.

The drying, grippy feel on your gums and tongue, as with strong tea. It comes from the skins and seeds of black grapes and from oak, and softens with age.

How much sugar you taste, from dry to sweet. Fruity is not the same as sweet: a dry wine can taste of ripe fruit.

How fresh and juicy the wine is: acidity makes your mouth water. High acidity tastes lively and refreshing, low acidity soft and round.

Domaine des Forges is located in the heart of the Loire and is known for its pure, accessible wines with a clear focus on freshness and terroir. The estate works with respect for nature and focuses on making wines that are immediately drinkable, but also possess character and tension.

The house style revolves around precision and balance, allowing the grapes to retain their natural expression. Chenin Blanc plays a key role here and clearly demonstrates what the Loire has to offer. You can find more information about this winery in the Winery tab.

Origin and terroir

The vineyards are located in the Loire Valley, a region known for its cool climate and excellent conditions for Chenin Blanc. The combination of moderate temperatures and ample sunshine ensures slow ripening.

The soils consist of limestone and clay, which provides tension, freshness, and distinct minerality. This subsoil gives the wine its typical Loire character, with a beautiful balance between fruit and acidity.

Grapes and vineyard management

This wine is made from 100% Chenin Blanc. The grapes are carefully selected to achieve an optimal balance between ripeness and freshness.

Vineyard management is aimed at preserving the natural expression of the grape. Controlled yields and a precise harvest result in a wine with bright fruit and sufficient structure.

Vinification and aging

After the harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel. This method ensures that the fresh fruit aromas and the pure character of the Chenin Blanc are preserved.

The wine then ages briefly on the fine lees, which provides extra texture and a light, round mouthfeel without losing freshness. No or only minimal oak influence is used, so that the grape remains the focus.

Color, smell and taste

In the glass, the wine has a clear, light yellow color. The aroma is fresh and expressive, with notes of apple, pear, and citrus, complemented by light floral accents.

On the palate, the wine is lively and crisp, with fresh acidity that provides tension. The fruit is ripe but not heavy, with a beautiful balance between freshness and light roundness.

The finish is refreshing and clean, with a subtle mineral touch that lingers.

Style and character

This Chenin Blanc displays a classic Loire style: fresh, mineral, and lightly aromatic. The wine is lean to medium-bodied, with a clear focus on acidity and drinkability.

The character is energetic and versatile, making the wine widely applicable. It works well as an aperitif, but also with light dishes such as salads, fish, and shellfish.

For lovers of fresh, crisp white wines with a mineral undertone, this is a very successful choice.

Borrel & terras
