Domaine de Baronarques is located in the heart of the Languedoc region, in the Limoux appellation. The winery boasts centuries of tradition, but gained international prestige in modern times when it was acquired by the Rothschild family (Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA) in 1998. Since then, they have worked with the same dedication and precision as their renowned Bordeaux estates. From the outset, the goal was to express the unique terroir of Limoux in wines that are both elegant and expressive.

The Domaine de Baronarques vineyards are situated on clay and limestone soils. This structure ensures excellent water management and contributes to the freshness and complexity of the wines. The Mediterranean climate is tempered by influences from the Atlantic Ocean and the nearby Pyrenees. This microclimate gives the Limoux wines a special tension and refinement, with fresh acidity and elegant aromatic expression.

the 2023 harvest and vinification

The 2023 growing season got off to an early start thanks to a mild winter and early budbreak in March. Despite some frost in April, the vineyards were spared. During flowering in May and June, warm and wet conditions posed challenges due to powdery mildew, but a strong northwesterly wind kept the grapes healthy. Summer brought cool spells, followed by a short but intense heatwave in late August, with temperatures exceeding 43°C. Thanks to ample water reserves in the soil, the vines withstood the heat well. The white grape harvest took place from August 29th to September 8th, under ideal conditions. For the 2023 Limoux Blanc, primarily Chardonnay (97%) and a small addition of Chenin (3%) were used. The wine was aged for eight months, 25% of which in new French oak barrels, which resulted in refined oak notes and added complexity.

The 2023 Limoux Blanc presents itself in the glass with a pale yellow color and a subtle green sheen. On the palate, the wine is lively and taut, with a silky, full texture. The balance of fruit, freshness, and subtle oak influences gives the wine elegance and length. The finish lingers with citrus zest, hazelnut, and a light minerality with a hint of salinity.
