2023 Domaine Anne Gros Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Le Grand Maupertui is an impressive Grand Cru from one of the finest parts of Clos de Vougeot. The cuvée comes from old vines planted as early as 1904 and, year after year, ranks among the most refined expressions of this famous Grand Cru. Anne Gros knows better than anyone how to combine the power of Clos de Vougeot with elegance, finesse, and an almost silky texture.

Domaine Anne Gros

Domaine Anne Gros belongs to the absolute top of the Côte de Nuits. Since Anne Gros took over the family estate, she has built an international reputation with extremely refined Burgundies in which terroir is always central. Today, her son Paul Gros also plays an increasingly important role within the estate. Although he cautiously experiments with new insights, the style remains true to Henri Jayer's philosophy: pure fruit expression, full ripeness, and maximum elegance.

The Grand Maupertui

Le Grand Maupertui is one of the most sought-after climats within Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. The old vines, a significant portion of which were planted in 1904, yield very low returns and grapes of exceptional concentration. Thanks to the calcareous clay soil and the favorable location, a wine is produced in which power and refinement come together seamlessly.

The very old vines not only provide extra complexity but also give the wine a striking finesse and an impressive length.

The 2023 volume

After a growing season with excellent ripening conditions, the harvest began on September 7. By carefully harvesting while still green, yields were limited and quality remained exceptionally high. The grapes reached optimal phenolic ripeness while retaining freshness and elegance, resulting in a 2023 classic Burgundy vintage with great precision and aging potential.

Vinification

As is customary at Domaine Anne Gros, only perfectly ripe grapes are selected. Fermentation is controlled to preserve the purity of the fruit to the maximum. The wine then ages in French oak barrels, where the wood serves solely to add extra refinement and complexity without dominating the character of the vineyard.

Scent, taste and character

The 2023 opens with refined aromas of raspberries, blackcurrants, and red cherries, followed by cranberry, violets, and Provençal herbs. As the wine opens up, more and more layers of spices, subtle earthy notes, and a refined mineral undertone emerge.

On the palate, the wine is remarkably harmonious. The ripe red fruit is supported by a beautiful freshness and fine-grained tannins. Despite the concentration, the wine remains elegant and precise, with an almost silky structure that is typical of Anne Gros's style.

The finish is long, refined, and lightly spicy, with an impressive balance between fruit, minerality, and subtle spices. It is a Clos de Vougeot that convinces with finesse rather than sheer power.

Storage potential

This Grand Cru possesses exceptional aging potential. Although it will already drink beautifully after a few years of bottle aging, it develops effortlessly over three to four decades. With age, increasingly complex aromas of truffle, forest floor, dried flowers, and fine oriental spices emerge.

Drinking window and food and wine pairings

The 2023 Domaine Anne Gros Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Le Grand Maupertui develops optimally between 2030 and 2065.

Preferably serve the wine at 16 to 17°C and give it plenty of air when young.

Excellent with roe deer, venison, pigeon, duck, veal fillet, mushrooms, truffle dishes, and refined French classics.
