Winery Château Gazin

Château Gazin is one of the historic estates of Pomerol and is situated on the famous plateau of the appellation, alongside great names such as Petrus and Château Lafleur. The estate has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages, when the Knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem managed a hospital and farmlands here.

Today, Château Gazin covers approximately 26 hectares of vineyards on the clay- and gravelly plateau of Pomerol. These soils are among the best terroirs in the region and are particularly well-suited for Merlot. The wine is characterized by depth, elegance, and a classic Pomerol structure with excellent aging potential.

2023 Château Gazin Pomerol

The 2023 Château Gazin is a classic and refined Pomerol with great precision and balance. The wine consists of 88% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon , a blend that offers both power and aromatic complexity.

The 2023 vintage displays a beautiful combination of ripe fruit, structure, and freshness. Here, Gazin presents a wine with tension, refined tannins, and an elegant texture typical of the best terroirs of Pomerol.

Terroir of the Pomerol Plateau

The Gazin vineyards are situated on the famous Pomerol plateau, where clay and gravel ensure perfect drainage and ideal water management for the vines. Merlot dominates here, giving the wine its characteristic ripe fruit character and round structure, while Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon add extra aromatic complexity and structure.

Color, smell and taste

Deep ruby red in color. On the nose, aromas of blueberries, ripe plums, and dark cherries, complemented by mineral notes and subtle hints of hazelnut, spices, and bark.

On the palate, medium to full-bodied with a refined and polished texture. Fine tannins support a core of dark fruit with notes of red cherries, plums, and a light spiciness. The finish is elegant and long-lasting with a beautiful balance between fruit and minerality.

Reviews

95 points – James Suckling
“The subtle tension to this classic wine is impressive. Aromas of blueberries, minerals and hints of hazelnuts and bark. A medium-bodied palate with fine tannins and a caressing and polished texture.”

94 points – Vinous (Antonio Galloni)
“The 2023 Gazin shows better today than it did en primeur. A powerful, bold wine with classicism and dark cherry, plum, blood orange, white pepper and mint emerging gradually.”

Storage potential

The 2023 Château Gazin combines power with elegance and has clear aging potential. The wine will open up further from around 2028 and can continue to develop for many years thanks to the balance between fruit, tannins, and fresh acidity.
