Borgogno Winery

Borgogno is one of the historic names of Barolo and was founded in 1761. The estate is known for its classic style, long aging, and strong focus on terroir and tradition. In the cellar, the winery operates with restraint, allowing Nebbiolo to express its origins and structure. Borgogno consciously chooses a style with tension, freshness, and aging potential, without obscuring the grape's distinctive identity. More information about this winery can be found under the Winery tab.

2023 Borgogno No Name

No Name is one of Borgogno's most famous wines and perfectly demonstrates the purity and directness of Nebbiolo. The wine originates from Barolo but is released as Langhe Nebbiolo. It is precisely this contrast that makes this cuvée so recognizable: the origins and depth of Barolo, combined with a slightly more accessible appearance in its youth.

Origin and style

The grapes for No Name come from plots within the Barolo region. Borgogno opts for a classic approach here, emphasizing pure fruit, crisp acidity, and refined tannins. This allows the wine to remain true to the character of Nebbiolo, with floral notes, red fruit, and a distinct earthy and mineral undertone.

The 2023 vintage

The 2023 vintage showcases an energetic and vibrant side of Nebbiolo. The wine combines ripe red fruit with freshness and tension, making it appealing now while also possessing sufficient structure to develop further. This makes No Name 2023 appealing to winemakers who appreciate both youthful expression and classic structure.

Color, smell and taste

Bright ruby red in color. The nose offers aromas of cherries, rose petals, and red fruit, complemented by subtle notes of herbs, orange peel, and a light earthy note.

On the palate, the wine is refined yet clearly structured. The fresh acidity creates tension, while the tannins provide grip and length. The fruit remains clear and precise, with a classic Nebbiolo signature that beautifully blends floral notes, red fruit, and a slightly savory undertone. The finish is long, dry, and elegant.

Structure and storage potential

No Name is often more approachable than many classic Barolos, but it retains a substantial structure. The 2023 also has sufficient tension and tannin to continue aging beautifully. In its early years, the wine will primarily display charm and freshness, later developing more depth and complexity.

Borgogno is one of the very first and probably very oldest wineries in Piemonte. The Italian winery strongly believes in the classical and traditional philosophy whatever its strength; adherence to these traditions has been passed on to future generations for years. Borgogno owns 13 hectares of vineyards, 9 of which are planted with the Nebbiolo grape. The wines are all vinified in a traditional way to produce unique and structured wines.
