Description
Founders: El Enemigo was founded by Alejandro Vigil, a renowned winemaker and vineyard director at Catena Zapata, and Adrianna Catena, daughter of Nicolás Catena, the founder of Catena Zapata. The concept for these unique wines was born on the day that Nicolas Catena received the 'Decanter Man of the Year' Award. During the walk after the event, his daughter Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil decided to start making wine together with deep respect for the history and tradition of the Catena family. Adrianna Catena is a passionate historian and Alejandro Vigil is at that time Head Winemaker at Bodega Catena Zapata. Alejandro later receives the highest ever rating for a Cabernet Franc by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate for his El Gran Enemigo Cabernet Franc from Gualtallary.
The El enemigo Sémillon comes from a high density vineyard in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo. It matured for 15 months in used French oak barrels, 35% with a delicate veil of flor. Yellow in the glass with a golden sheen. The nose presents inviting aromas of honey, chamomile, cashew and hazelnut against a background of creamy corn. The palate has a dry, compact character with a freshness of the flor that contrasts with the natural volume of the grape. Ends with a nuanced aftertaste of oak and nuts. A wine that can also age beautifully.
FACT: The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you come to pick up the wine you will often also receive a nice discount. You will see your discount immediately when you choose 'Pick up' on the checkout page. We are located in Dordrecht almost next to the A16 with plenty of parking. Click here for our address.

Still very young but already quite expressive and with a vibrant palate, the 2021 Semillon has a very low pH, reflecting the great freshness the wine achieved in this cooler vintage. It comes from an 80-year-old vineyard at 930 meters in altitude in Agrelo where the soils are rich in clay. It fermented and matured in 250-liter oak barrels, 20% of which developed a veil of flor yeast that give it a faint spicy twang. It has a seamless palate with a chalky and dry texture and finish, tasty and expressive. It should develop nicely in bottle. 5,250 bottles produced.
There are some new wines at El Enemigo, a project from Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena that does not stop growing. They produce an impressive 1.2 million bottles between all the ranges. They are also going to plant some more vineyards with Chardonnay.

Nicely baked apples, ripe citrus, stones, warm spices and a touch of vanilla. Tense and medium- to full-bodied on the palate, with a saline touch to the lengthy, flavorful finish. Fresh, composed and very extensive. Drink or hold.

Founded by enologist Alejandro Vigil in 2008 in partnership with Adrianna Catena (Laura Catena’s sister), El Enemigo mainly uses grapes from the Uco Valley to produce styles that reinvigorate the flavor profile of Argentine wine. They are having particular success with their Cabernet Francs, which reflect the full variety of the terroirs of Mendoza. In my opinion, their white wines are more interesting in the Argentine wine scene. The Chardonnay is a blend of Gualtallary grapes made with multiple techniques, ranging from barrel fermentation to wine aged under a white veil of yeast or flor (biological aging process,) resulting in a unique and delicious palate. Their Torrontés aims to introduce a new stylistic chapter to this indigenous grape.
