Domaine Leflaive is located in the village of Puligny-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune (Burgundy, France), an internationally recognized region for white Chardonnay wines. The estate's history dates back to the early 20th century, when Joseph Leflaive acquired his first vineyard in 1905. Since the 1990s, the estate has embraced biodynamic viticulture under the direction of Anne-Claude Leflaive; today, it is managed by Brice de la Morandière. The focus is entirely on high-quality white wine, exclusively Chardonnay, sourced from carefully selected plots on limestone and clay soils. The vineyards are often situated on mid-hill slopes with excellent drainage and exposure, combining authenticity, concentration, and elegance. Domaine Leflaive owns several Grand Cru plots and several Premier Cru sites, including Les Pucelles.

The 2022 Les Pucelles from Domaine Leflaive is a Chardonnay from the premier cru location of Les Pucelles, a suggestive sub-region in Puligny-Montrachet that often leans towards its larger neighboring Grand Crus. This vintage benefits from the combination of warmer-than-average temperatures and a sunny season: the wine is therefore rich and concentrated, yet retains its characteristically refined profile. Grapes, harvest, vinification and aging

The grapes are harvested by hand, carefully selected, and 100% Chardonnay. The soil of Les Pucelles consists of limestone-claystone, light and with little water enrichment, ideal for low yields and concentrated root development. In 2022, the harvest began relatively early due to the warm spring and summer season. In the cellar, the work is carried out with respect for the terroir: gentle pneumatic pressing, static clarification for 24 hours, followed by stainless steel or oak fermentation. New oak is used in part of the barrels (varying depending on the plot), and the wine is aged for approximately 18 months, part of which in oak. The result is a wine that is both pure and layered thanks to minimal intervention and extended aging.

Color, odor and flavor profile

In the glass, the 2022 Les Pucelles reveals a bright golden yellow with subtle green highlights, a sign of youthful freshness. The nose opens with white flowers, pear, citrus zest, and a pronounced minerality. Notes of ripe white peach, almond, and subtle smoky and nutty notes emerge, followed by hints of candied citrus peel and a light reductive note typical of the house. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with tight acidity that carries the whole. The profile is elegant and concentrated: white fruit, delicate almond notes, a salty mineral undertone, and a long, precise finish. External descriptions speak of "terrific palate density … brilliant drinking ahead" and "pure, enveloping, lively acids and a long, precise finish."
