Description
Located in the southwest of the village of Saint-Émilion, Château Monbousquet is a Grand Cru Classé where the 34 hectares of vineyard present a magnificent mosaic of terroirs. The wine is made from vines with an average age of 28 years, planted in sandy, sandy-clayey and sandy-gravel soils with iron oxide residues.
The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand before being vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, as does the maturation process (50% new barrels and 50% a wine). The Château Monbousquet 2022 is a blend of Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (15%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%).
Jeb Dunnuck (92-95), Vinous (Neal Martin) (88-90), Yves Beck 94-96, Vinous (92-94), Alexandre Ma 93-95, Markus Del Monego 94, James Suckling (93-94)

CHÂTEAU MONBOUSQUET ST.-EMILION 2022
Score
93-94
A rich wine with lots of tannins that are very fine and velvety, with deep fruit. Full and flavorful. Slightly salty and irony. Remains fresh and minerally. Some white pepper. Lead pencil.

The 2022 Monbousquet is gorgeous. Rich, deep and explosive, the 2022 offers up an exotic mélange of sumptuous red/purplish fruit, lavender, mint and rose petal. Curvy and sumptuous, with striking fruit purity. Monbousquet is super-impressive in this tasting.
88-90 Neal Martin
The 2022 Monbouquet was picked 15 to 27 September at 30hL/ha (due to smaller berries) with 14.28% alcohol. Ripe and opulent on the nose, quite pure in style, this goes out to seduce, though it does not present the same complexity as some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet and candied opening, liquorice-infused black fruit that grips the mouth with blueberry on the finish. Quite firm with a lot of backbone. It needs to soften during élevage.

The 2022 Monbousquet is sumptuous and exotic in the glass. Soft, plush contours lend notable immediacy. Blueberry jam, mocha, spice, new leather and licorice caress the palate as this open-knit, inviting Saint-Émilion shows off its considerable allure.

Ripe and expressive nose, full and fruity, open and aromatically quite forward with clearly concentrated fruit. Quite lean on the palate though, some tension and potency in the flavours - dark blackcurrant and exotic spices with fresh mint that gives a cooling touch. Still a bit tight and a touch dry with fruit losing a bit of vibrancy quite quickly. Appealing precision, and has charm, but lacks some easy generosity. Ageing 28 years, 50% new oak, 50% one year barrels. Total acidity 3.25, 3.83pH. HVE3 certified. 30th vintage for Monbousquet. Harvest started on the 15th September.
