Description
Remi Jobard, son of Charles Jobard and nephew of François Jobard, was inspired by these legendary brothers and eventually took over the helm of this remarkable estate. And as is so often the case in Burgundy, a famous surname comes with an enviable range of vineyards. Tasting these wines immediately reveals just how astonishing his Burgundies are. This is not surprising, since all his Burgundy plots border directly on Villages Meursault or 1er Cru Meursault. Currently, the estate comprises 8 hectares of vineyards. No herbicides or perticides have been used since 1994, but Remi decided to elevate the quality even further by switching to organic viticulture. Since 2011, all the vineyards have been certified organic. He also employs the longest fermentation of any winery in Meursault, two months. He even moves the barrels outside to a cooler environment to maximize fermentation. The result is refinement, elegance, and enormous ageing potential.
The Rémi Jobard Bourgogne AC Vieilles Vignes BIO is a 100% Chardonnay from an organically certified vineyard with old vines. The plots are all physically adjacent to the Meursault vineyards, so they are literally on the border. This beauty is certainly an alternative to the much more expensive Meursault Jobard. The Rémi Jobard Bourgogne is a sparkling golden yellow in the glass. The Bourgogne Côte d'Or Vieilles Vignes has beautiful aromas of green apples, pears, fresh pastry, and currants. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, elegantly satiny, and lively, with excellent balance and intensity. This is an unusually serious Burgundy that can certainly develop for another 10+ years.

From parcels that all touch the appellation of Meursault, the 2017 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Vieilles Vignes wafts from the glass with pretty aromas of green apples, pear, fresh pastry and white currants. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, elegantly satiny and lively, with excellent balance and intensity. This is an unusually serious Bourgogne which should be worth following for a decade.
A softly spoken-perfectionist, Rémi Jobard produces beautifully pure and vibrant expressions of Meursault that merit considerable interest; so I was a little perplexed when he informed me, during my December visit, that I was as yet the only critic to taste his 2017 collection. As readers may know, Jobard took over from his father Charles in 1996. No fertilizers have been used since 1994, and the domaine was certified organic in 2008. All its vines are cordon pruned, promoting smaller yields and smaller berries. And since taking the helm, Jobard's style has evolved step by step: today, the wines see two winters on the lees, and élevage is largely in Stockinger foudres. The result is a precise, almost minimalist style that produces Meursault of unusual transparency: classy wines that evolve slowly in bottle. 2017 is an excellent vintage at this address, simultaneously tensile but giving in profile, and they come warmly recommended.

Remi Jobard is the dynamic son of Charles Jobard, who has dedicated years to the construction of this small winery of 9 hectares, but with large plots in Meursault. Remi immediately showed his talent with modernly made wines that are mainly pure and mineral, original and not over-concentrated. The domaine has already abolished the use of herbicides and chemicals since 1988 and the wines are fully certified organic, so that the terroirs with their beautiful limestone hills can be seen to their fullest.
The harvest is carried out by the same team every year, the pickers are experienced and carry out an initial sorting directly in the vineyard. In addition to organic viticulture, as little intervention as possible is made in the vinification, the aging in Stockinger demi-muids, 650 liters of Austrian oak barrels, brings very little wood aromas, but a beautiful structure. These Burgundies often receive high reviews from the press and are a fine reference of the Meursault appellation, with chiseled and pure wines. The premier crus Poruzot and Genevrières, together with the Charmes and Perrières, are among the most perfect terroirs that Meursault has to offer.
