2021 Marques de Murrieta Primer Rosado

In 1987 Marques de Murrieta stopped producing rosé wines. In the (extreme) focus on quality, she only wanted to bring a rosé to the market that meets the high standards of the bodega and that all his wines must be top notch.

The Primer (= scoop) has recently been back on the market. The Primer Rosé is produced exclusively from the Rioja grape Mazuelo (the Rioja name for Cariñena). The wine is so named because this is a first for an absolute top Rioja rosé made from Mazuelo. The grapes come exclusively from the vineyards of Marques de Murrieta (Finca Ygay). Immediately after receipt in the cellar, the grapes are covered and grape juice is separated from the skins to obtain the purest grape juice. The free-flow juice ferments for a period of at least 40 days on its own yeast (sur lie) in stainless steel temperature controlled (10º C). The Primer Rose from Murrieta was only bottled in May 2021 and was only released during the summer 20222 and only a very limited number of bottles are always made because this rose is the free-flow juice of the Castillo de Ygay Red.

This beautiful top rosé is not just any rosé but is an insanely beautiful wine and begs for food such as grilled scallops, shrimp, creamy rice with squid or a beautiful salad with avocado. The wine has a very light pink color. In the nose notes of peach and roses. In the mouth the wine is fresh, clean and lively and very elegant and a nice minerality.
