We are proud and delighted as the importer of Marqués de Murrieta that the 2018 Murrieta Ygay Reserva has secured 4th place in the Top 10 of Top Values 2022 according to Wine Spectator.

The world of wine is far too vast for one person to uncover all its secrets - especially when it comes to finding the best bargains. So, for the second year in a row, Wine Spectator enlisted its editorial team to select the top values of the past 12 months. This expands on our regular coverage of value wines in the magazine and on WineSpectator.com, highlighting delicious, affordable bottles that overdeliver on quality for the price.

Wines that are easy on the wallet offer an ideal starting point for exploring a region or variety, giving you the chance to discover without breaking the bank. The thrill of trying something new is one of wine’s great pleasures, and with quality rising worldwide, it’s easier than ever to find a wine you love. That means well-priced wines from California to Italy to Argentina can now offer some of the special qualities that set their pricier counterparts apart.

This list of the Top 10 Values of 2022 is topped by our pick for Wine Value of the Year. All wines on the list scored 90 points or higher on Wine Spectator’s 100-point scale, cost €40 or less, and were produced in sufficient quantity to be widely available. We hope you’ll find a new everyday favorite or embark on a new journey of discovery.

Marqués de Murrieta owner Vicente Dalmau Cebrián-Sagarriga has spent nearly three decades walking the fine line between honoring tradition at this esteemed Rioja estate and positioning its wines for success in the modern wine world. 2018 was the first vintage made in a new winemaking facility, offering more space and advanced technology that enables greater precision. This vintage emphasizes fruit exclusively from the 740-acre Ygay estate and brings Cebrián-Sagarriga closer to his goal for the winery: “Elegance, freshness, complexity—this is Murrieta today.” This philosophy also influences the extended aging typical of the reserva category: the 2018 vintage spent 21 months in American barriques, in contrast to the 60 to 70 months common 20 years ago, and used new oak rather than old during the first six to seven months. 14,000 cases imported. —Alison Napjus
