Le C de Calon Ségur 2021: An Excellent AOC Saint-Estèphe
The Le C de Calon Ségur Saint-Estèphe 2021 is a new release. Previously known as Saint-Estèphe de Calon Ségur until the 2018 vintage, this wine is Calon Segur's 2nd wine and offers excellent value for money. This AOC Saint-Estèphe is a blend of 58% Merlot and 42% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Terroir and Vinification of Le C de Calon Ségur 2021
The terroir of Le C de Calon Ségur is characterized by a thick layer of gravel deposited during the Quaternary period. The subsoil consists mainly of clay from the Tertiary. On top of the gravel deposits there is also a thin layer of clay of lacustrine origin. The average age of the vines is 22 years, and they are trained according to the Double Guyot system, with a planting density of 8,000 vines per hectare.
The Merlot harvest takes place from September 28 to October 2, while the Cabernets are harvested from September 4 to 13. The grapes are picked by hand, with a first selection taking place on the vine. They are then mechanically sorted by vibration, followed by manual sorting.
Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled tronconical stainless steel tanks, with a maceration period of 18 to 21 days. After fermentation, the wine is matured for approximately 14 months in three-year-old barrels. The wine is refined using egg white.
Le C de Calon Ségur is the third label of Château Calon Ségur, owned by SURAVENIR. Vincent Millet is the general manager, assisted by a consultant oenologist.
