Rich and elegant Sangiovese Riserva from the hills of Le Marche.

Guerrieri Winery and the origins of the Galileo Riserva

Azienda Agraria Guerrieri is a leading family-run winery in Terre Roveresche, in the northern part of Le Marche. For five generations, the Guerrieri family has managed the estate with a strong commitment to sustainability, biodiversity, and quality. Besides wine, the estate also produces olive oil, grains, and honey, thus embracing a broad and balanced agricultural model.

The region is blessed with an ideal wine-growing climate: warm days, cool nights, and the influence of the nearby Adriatic Sea. The soils are rich in clay and limestone, which lend structure, minerality, and freshness to the wines. Guerrieri produces a wide range of characterful wines here, including the prestigious Galileo Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese Riserva.

Characteristics of Guerrieri Galileo Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese Riserva

The Galileo Riserva is a top-quality Sangiovese, produced within the Colli Pesaresi DOC . This wine is made exclusively in strong vintages, from perfectly ripe Sangiovese grapes sourced from carefully selected plots on the Guerrieri estate.

The manual harvest takes place at the end of September. Only the finest bunches are selected. After a gentle crushing, a long maceration of about 20 days follows in temperature-controlled tanks. The wine is then aged for 24 months in oak barrels, some of which are new, followed by at least another 12 months of bottle aging before release.

Color, smell and taste of Galileo Sangiovese Riserva

In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby red color with subtle garnet reflections. The nose offers aromas of ripe cherries, blackcurrants, leather, licorice, and subtle spices like cloves and cinnamon. As the wine opens, earthy notes and a hint of balsamic emerge.

On the palate, the Galileo Riserva is full-bodied and harmonious, with firm yet well-integrated tannins. The wine offers a combination of power, freshness, and length, making it particularly suitable for aging but also enjoyable to drink now. The finish is long and layered, leaving impressions of black fruit and spice.

Wine and food pairings with Guerriero Galileo Riserva

The firm structure, ripe fruit notes, and elegant spiciness of this Sangiovese Riserva make it ideal for dishes with depth. Some accessible pairings include:

  • Ossobuco with saffron risotto – The rich texture of the meat and the creamy risotto perfectly complement the intensity and freshness of the wine.
  • Pappardelle with Wild Ragout – The savory, spicy sauce enhances the earthy notes of the wine, while the acidity keeps everything in balance.
  • Grilled entrecote with rosemary and sea salt – The tannins of the wine are nicely rounded off by the fat in the meat, while the spicy note complements the use of wood.
  • Eggplant Parmigiana – The combination of tomato, cheese, and roasted vegetables is a perfect vegetarian partner for the wine's ripe, spicy style.
  • Matured Pecorino or Old Gouda Cheese – The salty intensity of the cheese is beautifully carried by the long finish and the fruit of the wine.
