The Dominio de Atauta is a wonderfully fresh, medium-bodied wine with excellent acidity. The nose reveals leather, cocoa, tobacco, and lovely red fruit and black currants. The wine has a very pleasant, long finish. Highly rated by Suckling, Parker, and Vinous. This is a great wine that is (still) affordable and can best be described as a wine with power and balance. Fantastic!

More about Dominio de Atauta

Wine importer Miguel Sánchez's trip to Atauta was a stroke of luck for the entire region. Traveling through the Ribera del Duero, he discovered the small valley with its ancient, abandoned vineyards, wine cellars over 400 years old, ancient vaults, and even the stone wine presses from the 13th century still standing. A wine wonderland that has fallen asleep.

The eastern part of the DO was notoriously difficult to cultivate, as the vines are situated at a considerable altitude of nearly 1,000 meters. Miguel Sánchez came, saw, and conquered: the youngest Tempranillo vines are 60 years old, while the oldest vines are up to 160 years old—truly incredible. An immense wealth! They immediately yielded exceptionally beautiful results after the overgrown plots were awakened. With the appearance of the first wines, it was immediately clear that these were not only some of the finest wines in the entire country, but even in the world! The strictly organic wines, aged individually, plot by plot, are among the finest ever produced from the Tempranillo grape.
