Description
Brothers Didier and Denis (and his son Bruno) Larue have their domaine in Gamay, a hamlet northeast of Saint-Aubin. The vineyards are therefore 'on the good side' of Saint-Aubin, namely on the side of Chassagne and Puligny Montrachet. In addition to a lot of Saint-Aubin, the estate also produces wines from Chassagne and Puligny Montrachet, appellations that appeal more to the imagination, because the best white wines in the world are made there. The family has owned vineyards for several generations, but Didier and Denis decided to bottle them themselves. In a short time, they have acquired a very good reputation with an honest, pure, teroir-oriented style at relatively good prices. The vineyard management is conscientious: the vines are pruned short and the harvest is green, so that the yield per hectare is low. Few pesticides are used and the picking is done by hand.
The Domaine Larue Saint-Aubin 1er Cru 'La Chatenière' is a 100% Chardonnay. La Chatenière is a premier cru vineyard with an ideal location on the south-eastern slopes, which ensures plenty of sunlight and excellent ripening of the grapes. The soil, rich in limestone and clay, contributes to the minerality and finesse of the wine.
Color: Light yellow with golden reflections.
Nose: Subtle aromas of white flowers, citrus fruits (such as lemon and grapefruit), ripe peach, and delicate hints of toasted almond and minerality.
Taste : The wine has a lively acidity that provides freshness and balance. On the palate it offers a rich texture, notes of ripe apple, citrus, and an elegant mineral finish.
Finish: Long and refined, with a pleasant combination of freshness and depth.
2021 was a challenging year in Burgundy due to spring frost and limited yields. Nevertheless, this vintage offers wines with exceptional freshness, finesse and a classic style, perfect for lovers of elegant Chardonnay.
This wine comes in a magnum (1.5 liters), which is ideal for special occasions or to let the wine mature longer. The larger size slows down the maturation process, allowing the wine to develop more slowly and harmoniously.

2019 Domaine Larue Puligny-Montrachet Le Trézin
RP 90
Reviewed by: William Kelley
Drink Date: 2022 - 2035
Aromas of crisp orchard fruit, citrus oil, white flowers and struck match preface the 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Le Trézin, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and chiseled wine that concludes with a tangy, saline finish. This derives from a one-hectare parcel, making it another of the domaine's larger holdings.
