Borgogno is one of the very first and probably oldest wineries in Piedmont. The Italian winery strongly believes in the classical and traditional philosophy, which is its strength; For years, the observance of these traditions has been passed on to subsequent generations. Borgogno owns 13 hectares of vineyards, 9 of which are planted with the Nebbiolo grape. The wines are all vinified in traditional ways to produce unique and structured wines. The wines are produced sustainably.
In the glass this Barbera is ruby red with purple tones. The nose is full and ripe with fruit of plums and cherries with an undertone of coffee and cocoa. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine has a beautiful creamy mouthfeel with flavors of blackberries, tobacco, cherries and soft tannins. This Borgogno barbera d'Alba has a fruity, long aftertaste and is a delicious accompaniment to roast pork and stewed chicken. The wine received an 8.5 rating in the large Hammersma.
“We have a plumber and his name is Tuinman. And a fish man who goes by the name Schilder. And then we have winemaker Borgogno here and he lives in Piedmont. But fortunately the north of Italy is also known for its great wines. And Giacomo Borgogno honors his name and that of Piedmontese red. Starting with this example Barbera. Delicious ripe, yet sour cherries. Blackberries too. Also pleasant acidity like a fine aceto balsamic vinegar. Nice bitters. Sincere, honest and delicious.”
Harold Hamersma in De Grote Hamersma 2016, rated with an 8.5
