Description
The Belondrade winery and its vision
Belondrade was founded in 1994 by Didier Belondrade with a clear vision: to create wines that elevate the Rueda Verdejo grape to unprecedented heights. Didier's philosophy is simple yet fundamental: "Wine begins in the vineyard." From this conviction, the house developed a style that combines tradition with modernity, focusing on terroir and natural balance. Belondrade is now internationally renowned as one of the icons of the Rueda region and ranks among the very best Spanish white wines.
The vineyards of La Cruz and Alameda
The Belondrade Les Parcelles 2021 comes from just two plots in the immediate vicinity of the winery, both situated on exceptional terroirs. The La Cruz plot consists of vines over 50 years old, planted on stony and clay soils. The second plot, Alameda , boasts bush vines over 70 years old on distinctly sandy soils. Both plots complement each other: the power and structure of La Cruz find a perfect balance with the refined minerality and freshness of Alameda. It is precisely this combination that makes the wine unique.
Vinification and maturation
The vinification of Les Parcelles focuses on purity and precision. Only free-run juice is used, guaranteeing the most refined expression of the Verdejo grape. Fermentation is followed by eighteen months of aging in oak barrels, after which the wine matures further in the cellars to develop additional complexity and elegance. This slow and careful approach makes Les Parcelles a wine that can age effortlessly, yet also excels in its youth with balance and refinement.
The 2021 harvest year
The 2021 harvest was characterized by evenly distributed rainfall in autumn and winter, followed by a dry summer. The winter was mild with a few days of frost, while spring arrived later than usual. Sufficient rainfall allowed for excellent bud set. Harvest took place between September 11th and 18th in the La Cruz and Alameda plots. The result is a wine with tension, freshness, and exceptional aromatic precision.
A wine without limitations
Belondrade Les Parcelles is not a vintage wine in the traditional sense. The Belondrade family has deliberately chosen to release the wine only when the quality is truly exceptional. As a result, there are vintages that are not chronologically consistent, and there are also years in which the wine is not produced at all. This reinforces the exclusivity and uniqueness of this cuvée. Moreover, the production runs are extremely small: often fewer than 2,000 bottles, as is the case with the 2021 vintage, with just 2,149 bottles.
Tasting notes of Belondrade Les Parcelles 2021
Les Parcelles 2021 presents itself with a golden yellow color and an impressive aromatic palette. The nose reveals notes of ripe yellow fruit, pollen, and subtle hints of flowers and herbs. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and opulent, with an almost oily texture yet carried by a fresh and mineral undertone. The finish is dry, long, and complex, with layers that continue to unfold. This wine guarantees long-lasting bottle development and offers a unique interpretation of Verdejo.
Exclusivity and collector's value
Belondrade Les Parcelles is only released in peak years and in very limited quantities. The 2021 vintage will be available from March 2026 and is already considered one of the estate's most promising releases. This scarcity, combined with its exceptional quality, makes the wine not only appealing to drink but also to collect. It is a cuvée always offered directly through Place de Bordeaux and a few exclusive distributors, making its availability even more limited.

The 2017 Belondrade y Lurton continues the move started years ago toward more elegance and freshness and especially wood that is much better integrated and less invasive of the varietal aromas of the delicate Verdejo grape. Despite the warm, dry and challenging style of the year, the wine is elegant and perfumed, fresh and varietal, complex, subtle, clean and precise. This is as good as it gets. Bravo! 2017 was a low-yielding vintage that delivered 95,136 bottles, 1,904 magnums, 200 Jeroboams and 60 Imperials. It was bottled in July 2018.
It's incredible to see Belondrade celebrating its 25th anniversary, as I remember the release of their 1994 Belondrade and Lurton like it was yesterday. It was a wine that changed the appreciation of Rueda, Verdejo and whites from Spain in general. Today, the wines are still the most elegant produced in Rueda, something you see so clear when tasting their wines next to others from the region.

White wines have been made in the Rueda region for centuries. The grandeur of the buildings, churches, monasteries and estates of Nava del Rey and Rueda testify to the enormous wealth in the past. The division of the domains made winemaking so loss-making that many vineyards disappeared. Today the area is very much on the rise again. Didier Belondrade and Brigitte Lurton started making wine in 1994 in Nava del Rey, in the heart of the Denominación. In this old town there is a labyrinth of abandoned cellars. The size of these cellars suggests how much wine was made here in the past. Within the walls of this old town, Belondrade and Lurton have chosen modern winemaking. The Belondrade is considered by many to be the best white wine in Spain, but the Belondrade Apolonio and the great Quinta Clarisa are also there. Very nice.
