Description
the Andremily winery
Andremily was founded by winemaker Jim Binns, Manfred Krankl's former right-hand man at Sine Qua Non. With Andremily, he shaped his own vision of Syrah and Rhône varietals. The winery is known for small productions, experimental vinification techniques, and an uncompromising focus on quality. In a short time, Andremily has built a reputation as one of the most sought-after Syrah producers in the United States, with wines that easily rival international icons.
vineyards and terroir
The grapes for the 2021 Andremily No. 10 come from several prestigious vineyards in Santa Barbara County, including White Hawk, Larner, Harrison-Clarke, Kimsey, Alta Mesa, and the new Slide Hill Estate in Edna Valley. The diverse terroir, with soils ranging from sand to clay and slate, gives the wine layers and complexity. The proximity to the ocean also ensures cool nights, allowing the wines to retain freshness and balance in addition to their enormous concentration.
blend and vinification of 2021
The Andremily No. 10 is blended from 93% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, and 2% Viognier. The grapes were partially (50%) fermented with whole bunches, adding structure and aromatic complexity. The wine was aged in French barriques, 65% of which were new, for 22 months. This ensured refined oak integration and longevity. Bottling took place on August 12, 2023, after which the wine rested in the bottle for several months before release.
tasting notes of Andremily No. 10 2021
The wine opens with an intense aromatic profile dominated by dark berries, blackberry, and black cherry. With time in the glass, notes of mint chocolate, vanilla bean, black olive, lilac, tar, and spicy botanical nuances emerge. On the palate, the wine displays enormous concentration and depth, with graphite-tinted layers of fruit waiting to fully blossom. Balance is found in fresh acidity and velvety tannins. The finish is endless, with a latent power that promises to unfold even further in the coming decades.
review by The Wine Advocate

The wine was described as having very long-lasting potential, suitable for drinking between 2030 and 2050.
production and availability
Production of the 2021 Andremily No. 10 is limited to just 900 cases. The wine is being released as part of a three-bottle box set. Several magnums have also been produced, which will be available as a set with the 2021 Mourvèdre. Its scarcity and high international esteem make this an extremely collectible wine.
style and storage potential
The 2021 Andremily No. 10 is a wine of power and intensity, but also of finesse and precision. The combination of Syrah, Mourvèdre, and a touch of Viognier creates an expressive whole with tension and balance. From: Santa Barbara: California's Undiscovered Jewel (Aug 2024)
The 2021 Andremily No. 10 captures all the potential I sensed last year. Silky and beautifully perfumed, the 2021 has acquired quite a bit more finesse than it showed as a young barrel sample. Crushed dark fruit, graphite, leather, cedar, incense, mocha and licorice are all laced together. Pretty floral overtones and bright acids extend the finish effortlessly. This is one of the best wines I have tasted from Andremily.
- By Antonio Galloni on August 2024
These are two very beautiful wines from Andremily that capture all the potential I saw when I first tasted them wines from barrel. It’s hard to believe this small, bootstrapped winery outfit located in a warehouse district in Ventura is now past its tenth anniversary. This is a rare example of a winery that has transitioned from working exclusively with purchased fruit to now owning an estate vineyard. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Andremily and the Binns family.

The 2021 Andremily No. 10 is one of the finest wines I have tasted at Andremily. Vibrant, focused and explosive, the 2021 possesses tremendous energy from start to finish. Dark red cherry, red plum, rose petal, cinnamon and new leather are some of the many notes that build as the 2021 opens in the glass. This is seriously impressive.
- By Antonio Galloni on July 2023
Jim Binns presented a stellar set of 2021s and 2020s. In 2020, Binns acquired Slide Hill (formerly Sawyer-Lindquist), one of the best-known sites in Edna Valley. As good as the wines have been here in the past, my distinct impression is that the move towards becoming an estate winery is having a profound impact on the wines. I see more nuance and delineation than in the early years. Those qualities work well in rounding out wines that have always been built on textural opulence. One change here is that the EABE red blend is being bottled a year later than in the past, so I did not taste it for this report.
