2020 Tentenublo Wines Custero

Custero is the new wine from Roberto Oliván (Tentenublo) that he made together with his wife Leyre Ruiz in the style of the classic Riojas. An organic red made with Garnacha, Tempranillo, Viura, Malvasía, Calagraño, Garnacha Gris, Graciano, Monastrell and Malvasía La Rioja, among others. Fermented in open barrels and aged in second year oak and concrete tanks.

The Custero comes from its own small single vineyard located in Viñaspre (Rioja Alavesa) where minimal intervention is used for viticulture. The region is clearly influenced by the Atlantic climate, characterized by a lot of rain in summer and spring. Tertiary soils, eroded limestone loam slopes and red sandstone loam landings. The harvest is completely manual and we work with spontaneous fermentation of all varieties in an open barrel with whole bunches, so with the yeasts on the grape (so no yeasts are even added). The result is an authentic red Roja in which the fruit predominates. Surprisingly beautiful acidity, juicy with mainly red fruit. This is certainly a wine that will improve even further with a few years of bottle aging and is unprecedentedly good in terms of price/quality, but supply is very limited because only 5,532 bottles have been produced.

In some cases, the wines are given a kind of WAX closure instead of a regular capsule. This has no further purpose and has the disadvantage that it hardens quite quickly and pieces can then simply crumble (spontaneously, during transport, etc.). This has no influence on the quality of the wine. We cannot give any further guarantee for this.
