Description
The El Bosque vineyard is located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, La Rioja. It is a very small vineyard of less than 1.5 HA (1.4820 Ha-3.66 acres) at an altitude of 500 meters. The soils are calcareous clay with an abundance of gravel and small round stones on the surface. Year of plantation: 1973. Environmentally integrated agricultural cultivation, applying a viticulture that respects the environment, according to the biorhythm of the plant. Biological fertilization every 2 years.
The grapes are of course hand-picked and are not mechanically destemmed, but each grape is assessed by hand with a very strict selection and also destemmed by hand. Cold pre-fermentative maceration at 8 ° C for 5 days. Fermented in French oak barrels at 28oC with native yeast selected from our own vineyards. The maceration on the skin lasts no less than 23 days. The wine matures in peace for 18 months in new French (95%) and Central European (5%) Bordelaise oak barrels.
This perfectly technical wine from the beautiful Sierra Cantabria winery, from the Eguren family, has a beautiful structure and a perfect balance of power and elegance. It has a fresh fruity start with semi-full to full black fruit such as blackberries with a nice but not overpowering oak support with beautiful velvety Spanish tannins and a super long finish of vanilla and black fruit. The full flavor is juicy with firm tannins and perfectly integrated acidity. The beauty of the Sierra Cantabria El Bosque is the incredible freshness. The wine is complex, fresh and young at the same time as if you were tasting fresh young Tempranillo grapes. A kind of Bodybuilder under a silk robe. Unique version in a double magnum of 3 liters. Even tastier!

ABOUT YEAR 2020 IN RIOJA
The season started with a rainy winter with even a lot of snow until February, after which milder temperatures came. The vines budded a little earlier, although the relatively low spring temperatures slowed down the vegetative cycle. The average rainfall in April and May ensures good vegetative development, but the relatively frequent spring storms caused bouts of fungal diseases and led to a loss of about 20% of the trusses. The summer gave temperatures just below average, which ensures a slow and gradual and fruitful development of the bunches with no further details and all this led to a healthy grape, with good ripeness for the harvest that started on September 21 and continues without rain, except for the weekend of October 1. The result of this 2020 vintage is a healthy harvest, with a good grape size and a slightly lower yield than a normal year. They will lead to aromatic wines with good overall acidity, a little less alcohol than a normal year and wines with good balance and a lot of elegance.

I was truly impressed by the elegance, finesse and balance of the 2019 El Bosque, which shows very integrated oak and velvety tannins. It comes from deep gravel soils that produce powerful wines, but somehow this 2019 is very elegant, and it's already approachable. For Marcos Eguren, this shows what El Bosque is. This matured in new oak barrels, 95% of them French and the rest from central Europe. 5,000 bottles were filled in July 2021.

The Spanish winery Sierra Cantabria was founded in 1957 by Guillermo Eguren and is one of Hermanos Eguren's beautiful wineries. Sierra Cantabria is located in the Rioja in a unique location between the River Ebro and the Sierra Cantabria mountain range. The Sierra Cantabria Mountains (1200m.) And the River Ebro (350m.) Provide a special microclimate with Mediterranean and continental features - mild winters and mild summers, unique to wine growing.
On the other hand, the thermal summer jump (intense heat during the day with fresh night temperatures) increases the polyphenol content, which makes for excellent quality wines with a distinctive character.
The vineyards of Bodega Sierra Cantabria are mainly located in the towns of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida and Laguardia, an area very well known for wine growing.
The Tempranillo variety predominates, along with small amounts of Garnacha, Viura and 'Hairy Tempranillo', all of which are grown in vineyards about 35 years old, although there are also plots up to 70 years old.The harvest is carried out by hand every year, paying special attention to the rigorous selection of the grapes that are the soul of the wine, in optimal condition and in perfect ripening conditions. The careful harvest is followed by a thorough separation of the bunches, which is done on a selection table at the entrance of the winery. Winemaking is aimed at minimal intervention in the winery to fully respect the character of the terroir
