The origins of Pazo de Barrantes go back to the early 16th century and since then it has been linked to the Cebrián-Sagarriga family - yes, the same family as Marques de Murrieta. At Pazo de Barrantes they have embraced a new challenge as a tribute to one of the world's most extraordinary grape varieties, the Albariño and from September 2021 the new Pazo de Barrantes will be on the market. Incomparable to the previous version. The wine has matured for 2 years (more than a year longer than the previous version), had a light wood aging, so everything Sur lie on its strides and the trim has also been completely changed.
It all starts with the unique terroir with its own 12 hectare vineyard in the heart of the Salnes valley. Blessed with a unique microclimate, it benefits daily from the family's hard work and care, expertise, passion and skill. More than 10 people have contributed to this new project, starting with the careful care of the vineyards to ensure optimum health and quality. of the grapes. They have seriously reduced yields and made an extensive selection of grapes, both in the vineyards and when they reach the winery. Using a slow, gradual ripening process with very strict quality parameters, the best juice is selected that is suitable for aging. In fact, the winery only handles the high-quality raw material (the grapes) very carefully and minimal intervention takes place. It gets all the time. As a result, the 2019 vintage has been significantly reduced (over 40% less), producing only 95,097 bottles, all of which are now numbered.
By controlling the fermentation temperature in the stainless steel tanks, we can slow down the fermentation and get more purity and aromatic intensity. After two months of contact with the lees, the wine takes on texture, while seven months of rest in the tank improves balance and harmony. A new ingredient has also been added: wood for a small part of the wine. About 15%, is aged in acacia casks, adding volume, complexity and depth. Finally, the bottle aging process has been extended to: over a year and a half, giving the wine the chance to become fully defined, balanced and express its incredible potential. The finishing touch to the project is the new packaging that best expresses the personality of the new Pazo Barrantes and a traditional Burgundy bottle with a new label has been chosen, which is printed on heavy, waterproof cotton paper, imitating traditional printing techniques. The label shows the winery as seen from the vineyard. After 30 years, the new Barrantens is baptized as the Gran Vino Pazo de Barrantes 2019.
