Description
'Coup de Cœur' is a “sensational Chardonnay” which is “flirting with perfection. Aromas of roasted hazelnuts, almond paste, brioche, honeysuckle, white peach and delicate pineapple are followed by a full-bodied, stunning wine displaying a subtle hint of oak.” -Robert Parker
Nestled in picturesque St. Helena, in the heart of Napa Valley, you'll find Morlet Family Vineyards. They combine old world traditions with the vibrant spirit of California. Founded by Luc and Jodie Morlet, this family-owned winery is dedicated to making exceptional wines that showcase the unique terroir of the Napa Valley and the Sonoma Coast.
The Morlets combine old world principles with the terroir of California. The winery focuses on small yields and meticulous vineyard management, ensuring that each grape is carefully hand-picked. Using low-intervention winemaking techniques, Luc and Jodie create powerful yet refined wines that showcase the personality and complexity of their fruit.
Each year, the tasting of individual batches of Chardonnay reveals a strictly limited number of barrels with truly exceptional properties. From the same hillside vineyards as 'Ma Princesse' and 'Ma Douce,' this unique cuvée has been carefully crafted using classic Burgundian winemaking techniques. It is their “Wonder of the Heart” or “Coup de Cœur.”
Winemaker notes: Straw yellow color. Complex bouquet of candied lemon, citrus oils, Reinette apple and strong notes of hazelnut and white truffle. Mineral driven on the palate, the mouth feel is rich yet delicate. Seamless and classic, it is wonderfully subtle and long on the finish. With a very high aging potential, this wine can be cellared for over a decade.

About Oakville - Napa Valley
Located in the heart of the region, Oakville represents some of Napa Valley's greatest, most powerful wines. It is this part of Napa Valley that has established itself as a leading producer of cabernet sauvignon, resulting in internationally recognized, award-winning wines. With equally powerful regions surrounding Oakville, including Rutherford, Yountville and St. Helena, the Oakville AVA has managed to produce world-class wines from the unique soil and perfect heat. With a distinct combination of clay, loam and sandy soils, the Oakville region has managed to produce highly complex and structured Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel and Chardonnay. It is these Bordeaux varieties that have put several wineries in the international spotlight. One of these wineries is Screaming Eagle Winery, which has produced consistent expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon and was able to auction one of their vintages for $500,000. This price tag has made it one of the most expensive wines in the world. In addition to the Screaming Eagle Winery, Oakville has several other wineries throughout the region such as Harlan, Bond, Promontory and Morlet.

A barrel selection and blend that Morlet feels represents his best, the 2020 Chardonnay Coup de Coeur is indeed a prodigious effort. Scents of toasted hazelnuts and white peaches dominate the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is plush and silky, with tremendous concentration and length. It's a complete wine, very nicely done.

Straw color. Ripe aromas of cooked lemon, papaya, dried orange and salted butter. Coconut, too. It’s full-bodied with tangy acidity. Flavorful and concentrated with a wild, zesty finish. Intense and layered. A little obvious, but so attractive. Drink or hold.

His academic journey, which included a Master's in Oenology and extensive training in renowned wine regions such as Burgundy and Bordeaux, laid the foundation for his expertise. When he arrived in California in 1996, Luc sought to adapt the sophisticated principles of French winemaking to the terroir of Napa Valley, resulting in wines that balance the American wine intensity with elegance.
