2020 Little Beauty Pinot Noir

A true masterpiece by winemaker Eveline Fraser. We didn't expect anything else from her. For years she was the winemaker at the famous Cloudy Bay. However, she has now founded her own winery: Little Beauty. And as the name makes clear, she goes for quality and not quantity. The winery is small, but all the attention goes to the bottles.

In the glass, this Little Beauty Pinot Noir has a medium ruby red color. The Limited Edition Pinot Noir is a great Pinot noir. Intensely aromatic; packed with aromas of raspberry, black cherry, red fruit compote with some savory notes, dark plums, hints of violets, raspberry and coffee mocha. In the mouth again the red fruit, soft, silky tannins, smoky barrel ferment character as well as blueberries and ripe blackberries.

Fact: This wine currently ranks #1 as Pinot Noir in one of London's classiest wine bars - The Beaufort Bar - in the beautiful Savoy Hotel, London.

This pinot noir comes from three blocks with different soil types, which are harvested separately and allowed to ripen separately. The soil varies from fine clay silty loam to blocky loam to parts of the vineyard with lots of pebbles and stone. The fruit is harvested over several days with several passages, so that the fruit was optimally ripe.
The fruit is first destemmed in stainless steel open fermenters and cold soaked for several days before fermentation begins with the naturally occurring yeasts on the grape. During fermentation, each batch was dipped three times a day to gently extract the tannin and color. After drying, each batch was held at 20°C for 20 weeks for post-fermentation maceration, after which it was separately pressed and transferred to oak barriques for aging in which the wine was aged for 11 months. The series of passes through the vineyard and separate fermentation and maturation of each clone ensure that the varietal character and integrity are preserved in the Little Beauty.
