Description
The Domaine Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint-Jacques comes from the vineyard of the same name "Estournelles Saint-Jacques" which is located at the beginning of the Combe de Lavaux fault line, beautifully situated on the south, above "Lavaux St-Jacques" and against "Clos St-Jacques". In the good years, only one cask of the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint-Jacques is made of this top model.
The Gevrey-Chambertin "Estournelles Saint-Jacques" is an elegant, fine, spicy and rich wine. Its structure is complex. This top model from Domaine Hubert is medium to full bodied. The wine is very elegant, with aromas of cassis, wild berries, spices and orange zest. This is always the highlight of the Humbert range but oh so scarce.
The brothers Emmanuel (Manou) and Frédéric Humbert are the fourth generation of wine producers of the Humbert family estate. They took over the estate from their parents in 1989 and have steadily improved the quality of their wine ever since. Their wines are highly sought after and excel in harmony and balance. . Emmanuel is the dynamic force behind this domain: a thoughtful and passionate man with a great love for wine, food and rugby. Ten years ago, the Humbert brothers switched roles with Manou moving to the winery and Frédéric moving to the vineyard, and they haven't looked back since. Manou, a larger-than-life, rugby-playing winemaker, brings a clear definition to his wines. There is noticeable clarity between the brothers' many terroirs in Fixin and Gevrey-Chambertin, impressive precision indeed. Read more in the Tab: Wijhuis
ABOUT GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN
Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest wine-producing village in the Burgundian Côte d'Or. Located in the far north of the Côtes de Nuits, the Classic style is typically deeper in color, firmer in body and more tannic in texture than most red Burgundies. While there have been numerous underachievers here in the past, the overall quality is now higher than ever and the best has the potential to develop into the most complete and long-lived Pinot Noir in the world........... On the domain, the emphasis is on manual working methods, including ploughing, green harvesting, if necessary, thinning of leaves and bunches. The grapes undergo a cool maceration of several days before fermentation in temperature-controlled vats. Over-extraction and too firm tannins are always avoided. All wines mature in Burgundy oak barrels from the forests around Châtillon. 50% new oak for all wines, except for the grand cru Charmes-Chambertin, which is aged on 100% new oak.
