Description
This 2nd Grand Cru Classe Pauillac Rerserve de la Comtesse from 2018 is made by Chateau Pichon-Longueville Comtesse. The winery was acquired in 2007 by champagne estate Louis Roederer. This beautiful Pauillac is a blend of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon , 47% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot . The wine has a very refined and pure bouquet of black cherry, cedar and violet aromas and is perfumed and sensual. Medium-bodied on the palate with supple, rounded tannins that are enveloped by layers of tobacco-tinged black fruit that lead to a long, slightly spicy and also soft finish. The taste is medium to full, the palate is packed with juicy black fruit and lots of earth / mineral nuances, and finishes with a lovely freshness and a quiet intensity. Very impressive. A lovely red wine with great ageing potential. This wine will definitely benefit from longer storage!
Réserve de la Comtesse is a wine that reflects the elegance and complexity of Pichon Comtesse de Lalande, but is more approachable in its youth. This wine is perfect for those who want to enjoy the classic style of a top Bordeaux without the long waiting time that a grand vin often needs to reach its full potential. It is an ideal companion to grilled meats, stews, and mature cheeses, but can also be enjoyed solo to fully appreciate its refined character.

Composed of 47% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Reserve de la Comtesse is redolent of cassis, redcurrant jelly and raspberry coulis, plus suggestions of chocolate box, lilacs and stewed tea, with a waft of unsmoked cigars. The medium-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating, juicy black fruits with a soft texture and seamless freshness, finishing long with a spicy kick. This is a very different style from the grand vin, possessing a more playful, upfront and effortlessly delicious character that truly draws you in!

The 2020 Réserve de la Comtesse is absolutely gorgeous. Far more expressive than the Grand Vin today, the Réserve is everything a second wine should be. Ripe dark cherry, plum, spice, menthol, licorice and tobacco all flesh out in a sumptuous, racy Pauillac that impresses with its alluring personality. This is an especially fine vintage for the Réserve. The 2020 is 47% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot – in other words, a high percentage of PV that undoubtedly marks the blend.
