Description
This vast terroir has been brought back to life by Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt. The vineyard of Chateau Pavie Macquin, planted in deep clay and limestone soils, is situated next to Chateau Pavie and Chateau Troplong Mondot. Pavie-Macquin is not far from Gerard's little treasure, Pavie-Decesse. Chateau Pavie Macquin is a very rich and aromatic wine that is made biodynamically. Since 1990, the vineyard here has been cultivated biodynamically, which has certainly not harmed the quality of the wine.
The Pavie Macquin is garnet purple in colour in the glass. On the nose, the Pavie Macquin has black cherries, blackberries and blueberries followed by roses, cedar and cigars plus a hint of wild thyme. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with cherries and berries again framed by firm but beautifully ripe tannins and a very fine finish. This is a classic Saint-Émilion from a great vintage.
