Winery Château La Vaisinerie

Château La Vaisinerie is a family estate in Puisseguin Saint-Émilion, one of the satellite appellations of Saint-Émilion. The estate is part of a historic Bordeaux tradition and has existed since the 17th century. Since 2019, it has been in the hands of Alain Moses, who took over the château as a new family project after a long career in the Bordeaux trade. La Vaisinerie works with attention to terroir, classic vinification, and a sustainable approach in the vineyard. More information about this winery can be found under the Winery tab.

2020 Château La Vaisinerie Puisseguin Saint-Émilion

The 2020 Château La Vaisinerie is a classic Right Bank Bordeaux with a Merlot-driven style and a remarkably refined structure. The wine comes from Puisseguin Saint-Émilion, an appellation known for rich, round, and accessible wines with good aging potential. True gems can still be found in this area, and Merlot thrives particularly well given the slightly higher and cooler terrain.

Vineyards and terroir

The estate covers a total of 25 hectares, of which 13 hectares are planted with vines. The average age of the vines is approximately 35 years. The soil consists of clay and limestone, similar to Saint-Émilion itself. This ensures a good water supply for the vines and gives the wine both roundness and structure. The plantings consist of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.

Vinification and aging

After a rigorous selection of the grapes using a modern sorting table, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. Approximately half of the production then ages for 12 to 14 months in French oak, divided into one-third new barrels, one-third one-year-old barrels, and one-third two-year-old barrels. This approach gives the wine extra depth and texture without overpowering the fruit.

Sustainable approach

Château La Vaisinerie consciously opts for a sustainable approach in the vineyard. Limited treatments are used, tailored to the specific needs of each plot. Hedges between the plots help collect excess water, and the estate utilizes its own water reserves via a small lake. The estate is not organically certified, but strives for the smallest possible ecological impact with maximum attention to the health of the vines and the quality of the wine.

Color, smell and taste

Stunning price-quality ratio from Bordeaux is the best summary. Deep ruby red in color. On the nose, notes of black cherries and blackberries, complemented by grilled herbs, spices, walnut, and a subtle touch of cedarwood. On the palate, medium to full-bodied with juicy dark fruit, firm tannins, and a dry, slightly chewy finish. The wine has a classic structure but remains accessible and balanced.

Style and character

La Vaisinerie 2020 clearly demonstrates why Puisseguin Saint-Émilion is so interesting for lovers of classic Bordeaux. The wine combines ripe fruit and roundness with sufficient freshness and spiciness to remain exciting. This is a wine that provides pleasure now, but can also develop further over several years. Excellent value for money. This is a half bottle of 0.375 liters – perfect for 3 nice glasses.
