About Château Bellevue-Mondotte
Château Bellevue-Mondotte has a rich history and prestigious heritage in the Saint-Émilion wine region of Bordeaux, France. This small but remarkable estate covers just 2.5 hectares and is located on the famous limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, home to other leading wineries such as Château Pavie and Château Pavie-Decesse. The vineyard enjoys a privileged location with optimal conditions for growing quality grapes, which contributes to the pronounced intensity of the wines.
In 2001, Château Bellevue-Mondotte was acquired by Gérard Perse, an influential winemaker who also owns the famous Château Pavie. His influence and vision have contributed to Château Bellevue-Mondotte’s reputation as a producer of powerful, concentrated and complex wines. With his dedication to low yields, careful selection of the grapes and long maturation in French oak barrels, Gerard Perse has maximised the estate’s potential and taken the quality of the wines to a new level.
The Château Bellevue-Mondotte vineyard is planted with a high concentration of Merlot (90%), supplemented with small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, with vines that are on average 50 years old. This produces concentrated, characterful grapes that produce robust and elegant wines. Bellevue-Mondotte wines are known for their dark colour, ripe aromas of black fruit, spices and a subtle minerality from the limestone soil.
Since its acquisition by Perse, Château Bellevue-Mondotte has established itself as one of the top wines in Saint-Émilion, receiving high ratings and praise from international wine critics. The combination of a rich history, an exceptional terroir and the expertise of Gérard Perse, makes Château Bellevue-Mondotte one of the most sought-after Grand Crus in Bordeaux.

The 2020 Bellevue Mondotte is made from 100% Merlot, with an alcohol of 14.92% and a pH of 3.54. It is aging in French oak barriques, 90% new. Displaying an opaque purple-black color, it sashays out of the glass with flamboyant notes of plum preserves, blackberry compote and blueberry pie, plus hints of hoisin, Chinese five spice and camphor with a touch of dried rose petals. The concentrated, seductive, full-bodied palate delivers layer upon layer of black and blue fruit preserves, accented by exotic spices and supported with firm, ripe, rounded tannins plus fantastic freshness. The finish is epically long and achingly fragrant. Wow!

This is a terrific wine that has everything, from seamless texture to great depth of fruit. Full-bodied, yet agile and energetic. Pure merlot. One of the best I have had from here.

From: 2020 Bordeaux En Primeur: Almost Back to Normal (Jun 2021)
The 2020 Bellevue Mondotte is a dark, brooding Saint-Émilion, from just two hectares of vineyards. Graphite, gravel, scorched earth, inky dark fruit, chocolate and cloves stain the palate. Deep and explosive, with tremendous energy, the Bellevue Mondotte is magnificent and also one of the most distinctive wines in the appellation. In 2020, it’s 100% Merlot, as the small parcels of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon that once were used here have been budded over to Merlot. What a wine!
