Château Bélair-Monange is owned by the Moueix family and is among the finest in Saint-Émilion. 2020 Château Bélair-Monange Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
The 2020 showcases the ripeness of the vintage, combined with freshness and structure. A modern interpretation of Saint-Émilion with depth and tension.
The 2020 vintage
2020 was warm and sunny, with perfect phenolic ripeness and concentrated grapes. Thanks to the chalky soils, the wine retained its freshness and energy. The ripe tannins and higher alcohol level are balanced by tension and minerality.
Color, smell and taste
Deep ruby red with purple hues. The nose offers rich aromas of cherries and plums, complemented by sweet spices, rose petals, and subtle notes of new oak. The palate is full and layered, with a ripe, sun-drenched fruit core. Despite its concentration, the wine remains vibrant. The tannins are generous yet well-integrated, providing structure and length. The finish is long and balanced.
Structure and storage potential
The combination of ripe fruit, fresh acidity, and present tannins makes this a wine that will continue to develop beautifully. The drinking window extends from 2025 to 2045, with further bottle aging bringing additional complexity and refinement.

The 2020 Belair Monange has also turned out nicely in bottle, wafting from the glass with aromas of rich cherries, plums, sweet spices, rose petals and creamy new oak. Full-bodied, rich and layered, it remains fresh despite its ripe, sun-kissed profile, and its generous payload of tannin helps to integrate its rather lofty level of alcohol. This is a success in its demonstrative, modern style.

Intense aromas of wet earth, limestone cellars and dark fruits such as currants and blackberries. Then turns to flowers. Black truffles, too. Licorice. Gravel. Full-bodied with a solid palate of tannins that melt into the wine. It’s sleek and muscular with fantastic length and presence. Reminds me of great old Belairs from the 1950s. Cool wine. 98% merlot and 2% cabernet franc. Give it six to eight years of time. Best after 2028.

From: Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)
The 2020 Bélair-Monange is tremendous. What a wine. It is easily the best effort since the Mouiex family bought the property. Rich, ample and dramatic, Bélair-Monange saturates the palate with waves of inky dark red fruit. Sweet floral, espresso and spice notes appear later, adding shades of nuance. Clean mineral notes extend the finish effortlessly. A wine of exotic beauty and allure, Bélair-Monange is a real stunner in 2020.
