Description
One of Spain's best wines. A modern accessible Rioja with 16 months of wood aging. The Roda Reserva is Roda Reserva is an assembly of Tempranillo, Graciano and Grenache. This is a Rioja at a high level. Ruby red with slight evolution. Very complex in the scent, but a scent that promises a lot. A nose of red fruit, coffee, roasted nuts. The taste is powerful with beautiful shades of vanilla, herbs, pepper, black fruit including many blackberries. Fine acidity. Accessible and yet young in structure. The aftertaste is absolutely great, a really great glass!

The wines are quite transparent of the vintage conditions, with the 2019 Roda being round, lush and velvety, with polished and sleek tannins and more volume and concentration, reflecting a low-yielding, warm and dry year. This is a cuvée with more red than black fruit produced with 91% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano and 4% Garnacha from 30-year-old vines fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in French barriques, 50% of them new, the other 50% second-use for 14 months. It's a red with 14.5% alcohol, ripe fruit, measured oak and integrated acidity. 145,744 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2021.
I tasted the first white from Roda and a lot of reds to get up to date with current and near future releases. They now control 120 hectares of vineyards, of which they own 70, and produce 400,000 bottles.
They consider 2018 as one of the most challenging years in their history (together with 1992) and 2019 as an excellent vintage with a limited crop.
