Joseph Drouhin was a daring and enterprising young man from the Chablis region. In 1880, at the age of 22, he settled in Beaune and founded his own winery there. His aim was to offer high-quality wines that would bear his name. With almost 90 different appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers a fascinating range of Burgundian terroirs in all their authenticity and subtle variations. Joseph Drouhin has adopted the organic and biodynamic approach. Only natural products are used in the vineyards and all procedures show the utmost respect for the soil, the vine and the environment. Joseph Drouhin's style is an alliance of character, balance and harmony. Wines intended to be drunk young are fresh and subtle; those intended to be kept acquire a sumptuous complexity with age.
This Marquis de Laguiche comes from Puligny and Chassagne. In the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, the domain of the Marquis de Laguiche is located entirely on the Puligny side of the appellation. A very slight slope and a great south-eastern exposure. In each period of history, a few vineyards have been considered heritage treasures for their incomparable quality. The Montrachet de Laguiche belongs to this Pantheon. This estate (2.06 hectares - 5.09 acres) is in fact the largest parcel of the Montrachet vineyard and has been in the hands of the Laguiche family since 1776. The Drouhin family is responsible for the cultivation and vinification and has spread and maintained its worldwide fame since 1947.
The Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche Grand Cru 2019 is full of promise, bursting from the glass with aromas of orange peel, honey pears, white flowers, citrus blossom and toasted almonds. Powerful, concentrated and enveloping, rich and layered, with enormous depth at the core and a long, salty finish.

The 2019 Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche Grand Cru is very promising, wafting from the glass with aromas of orange zest, honeyed pears, white flowers, citrus blossom and toasted almonds. Full-bodied, concentrated and enveloping, it's rich and layered, with huge depth at the core and a long, saline finish.
The 2019 vintage has turned out beautifully at this address, delivering wines of immense charm, and it was a pleasure tasting through this selection with Véronique Drouhin. These textural, sumptuous whites will offer considerable immediate appeal—even if Drouhin's two bottlings from the holdings of the Marquis de Laguiche are also built for the cellar—but it's the perfumed, vibrant and enveloping reds that really steal the show this year. To my palate, of all the region's important houses, Drouhin's style places the greatest premium on aromatic range and structural finesse; and the 2019 reds compellingly exemplify those aesthetic priorities.

So ripe, but also deep and delicate, this is a masterpiece of creamy sensuality, the considerable power and concentration underplayed, with the result that it has noble elegance. Yes, there is a hint of exotic fruit in the nose, but also minty freshness. The finish is very long and intense, but so finely nuanced. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru (Marquis de Laguiche) is very intense on the nose, featuring subtle licorice scents tucked behind the citrus fruit; this seems to expand with aeration. The palate is beautifully balanced with a playful entry of apricot and quince. It builds beautifully in the mouth, revealing hints of crème brûlée and almond shavings toward the well-defined finish. Hints of chai tea and grilled hazelnut swirl around on the aftertaste. This is a long-term Montrachet.

Joseph Drouhin was a bold and enterprising young man who hailed from the Chablis region. In 1880, at the age of 22, he settled in Beaune and founded his own wine company there. His goal was to offer high quality wines that would bear his name. His son Maurice succeeded him and set up a vineyard estate in front of the house, buying land in some excellent appellations such as Clos des Mouches and Clos de Vougeot. Robert Drouhin, who succeeded Maurice in 1957, gave the domain its current dimension and acquired many vineyards, especially in Chablis, where he was able to recognize its true potential. He was one of the first in Burgundy to introduce "culture raisonnée" (abolition of pesticides and other chemicals) and set up an oenology laboratory led by Laurence Jobard, the very first female oenologist in Burgundy. Philippe, Véronique, Laurent and Frédéric are the four children of Robert and Françoise Drouhin. They uphold the values of the house and its constant search for quality, for the enjoyment of all who have a deep appreciation for the natural elegance of Burgundy.
