Description
The Mas Can Blau is the top model of the winery Can Blau from the Montsant. This top region is located in the north of Spain and is located around the Priorat. If the entire area is represented as an end, then the yolk is the Priorat and the egg white the Montsant. The altitude, the influence of the sea and especially the unique terroir of slate make this region very popular with iconic wineries such as Universal, Rene Barbier, Palacios. For several years now, the enterprising Gil family (also Juan Gil, Clio, nido) has owned the beautiful winery Celler Can Blau and aims to develop a line of high-quality wines from the native grape varieties (Syrah, Monastrell, Grenache, Cargigan). The wines are made by the Australian winemaker Sarah Morris - known for the famous native blends.
The Mas Can Blau is the top model of Celler Can Blau and is only made in the top years. The Garnacha vineyards are planted in slate soils -llicorella-, the Cariñena vineyards grow in clay soils and the Syrah vineyards are located in limestone soils to obtain this complex wine. After the manual harvest, the grapes from the best plots are selected for the Mas Can Blau. The maceration-fermentation takes place in small stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation and subsequent maturation in new French oak barrels for 18 months.
The wine has a dark purple colour with a seductive perfumed bouquet reminiscent of smoky blackberries, currants and vanilla, with a powerful floral and spicy note. There is a perfect balance between warm notes of macerated fruit and memories of slate terroir. Full, fleshy and powerful in the mouth, concentrated and tasty, but not excessive and a surprising elegance with a long, broad and persistent finish. This beautiful Montsant is a perfect companion for grilled or roasted red meat, stews of game and small game, poultry, rice, roasts, salted and blue cheeses and mushrooms, stews.

If the yolk of an egg represents the Priorat, then the egg white is the Denominacion de Origin 'Montsant'. In horseshoe shape around the famous Priorat region. For several years now, the enterprising Gil family (famous with their Clio, Silver and Blue Label and of course the iconic El Nido) has owned the beautiful winery Can Blau here. The 35-year-old vineyards are planted with the typical autochthonous grape varieties: Mazuela, Syrah and Garnacha. The wines receive unanimously very high ratings from the international wine journalists.
Can Blau has the typical scarlet color of the red wines from the Priorat region, where the Montsant Designation of Origin is located. The Can Blau wines are made from the typical Montasant/Priorat grapes coming from different terroirs and all this together gives the uniqueness of the wines of Can Blau. The tannic Cariñena grape is harvested from the valleys of the clay soils. The tasty Syrah grapes grow on the steep limestone slopes. The Garnacha grape sprouts from the old and dark slate of the Priorat. The allure created by the combination of these three varieties in different proportions leads to the red wines of Cellers Can Blau.
