Les Forts de Latour is the second wine of Château Latour and is produced with the same precision and attention as the Grand Vin. The wine comes from selected plots and younger vines within the estate, situated on the famous gravel terroir of Pauillac. As a result, the wine retains the typical Latour signature: structure, tension, and aging potential.
The vineyards are situated on deep gravel terraces near the Gironde. These soils provide excellent drainage and heat retention, which is essential for the ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a wine with concentration, finesse, and distinct minerality with notes of graphite and cedar.
The blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot. Vinification takes place plot by plot, after which the wine ages in oak barrels. The use of new wood is carefully balanced to support the structure without overpowering the fruit. This results in a wine where power and refinement come together.
The 2019 growing season began with a cool and humid spring, which ensured an even and healthy development of the vines. Flowering took place under favorable conditions, laying the foundation for a homogeneous year.
The summer was warm and dry, but without extreme heat. This ensured controlled water stress, keeping the grapes small and allowing them to develop a high concentration. At the same time, sufficient freshness was retained, which is essential for balance in Pauillac.
In September, cooler temperatures brought extra precision and aromatic finesse. Rain fell just before the harvest, ensuring optimal ripeness and better extraction of color, tannins, and aromas. This resulted in a wine with both power and elegance, and a remarkably clean structure.
The harvest took place under ideal conditions, with carefully selected grapes. During vinification, the emphasis is on controlled extraction and precision, ensuring the tannins remain ripe and refined. Aging in wood integrates structure and complexity without disrupting the balance.
The wine opens with aromas of cassis, blackcurrant, and ripe dark fruit. Additionally, notes of graphite, cedarwood, tobacco, and subtle spices emerge. On the palate, the wine is full and structured, with silky yet firm tannins and a long, precise finish.
The balance between ripe fruit, fresh acidity, and minerality gives the wine both immediate appeal and great aging potential. This is a classic Pauillac with modern refinement.
Ideal with grilled beef, lamb dishes, game, and rich meat dishes. Also pairs excellently with aged cheeses. The structure and depth of the wine make it highly suitable for gastronomic applications.

Drinking Window
2029 - 2069
From: Cellar Favorite: Château Latour 2026 New Releases (Feb 2026)
The 2019 Latour is every bit as impressive as it has always been. Silky and caressing on the palate, with exceptional balance, the 2019 has so much going on. Dark red fruit, new leather, spice and a kick of blood orange are some of the notes that build in the glass, but ultimately the 2019 impresses most with its textural finesse. There was a bit of rain during harvest, but that does not appear to have been much of an issue. The 2019 is a quintessentially modern Latour, a wine that deftly marries power with elegance. Yields came in at 45 hectoliters per hectare, quite a bit higher than the long-term average of 34 hectoliters per hectare.

From: Bordeaux 2019: The Southwold Tasting (Feb 2023)
The 2019 Latour has a discrete nose that unfurls gradually, taut and fresh, with touches of graphite and cedar. This just wants to underplay everything. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit framed by fine tannins. Very precise though it feels as if it is closing down on the finish. Yet there is clearly a very long aftertaste. A really cerebral Left Bank for long-term consideration. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

2031 - 2069
From: 2019 Bordeaux from Bottle: The Two Towers (Feb 2022)
The 2019 Latour is elegance and class personified. The picture of modern-day Latour, the 2019 is virtually seamless in the glass, with all the elements beautifully woven together. Bright saline notes lend energy as well as tension throughout. The 2019 is not an explosive or huge wine, but it is immensely elegant and polished in the modern style of Latour, much of which, in my view, is the result of biodynamic farming and better balance in the vineyard. Specifically, the broad, imposing tannins that were once a Latour signature appear to be a thing of the past.

The Château Latour is one of the most famous wineries in the world. It is located in the Bordeaux in Pauillac. It is located on the border with the Saint-Julien wine region. Château Latour is classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé according to the Bordeaux wine classification system of 1855. The estate covers 60 hectares and approximately 78% cabernet sauvignon, 17% merlot and a little cabernet franc and petit are added.
Château Latour has played an important role in the history of the region. Throughout the centuries, many old documents about this winery have been preserved in the archives. This unique heritage shows extraordinary stability and continuity in the estate and those who have worked there throughout Latour's long history, which has undoubtedly been an important factor in the exceptional regularity and quality of the wines.
The oldest document with the mention Latour dates from 1331 and is an authorization given by Lord Pons to Gaucelme de Castillon to build a fortified tower in the parish of Saint Maubert. Château Latour then appears in 1378 in Jean Froissart's "Chronicles". This was the time of the 100 Years' War. The "Tour de Saint Maubert" was a fortress to guard the estuary, manned by Breton soldiers for the King of France. After a three-day siege, the Anglo-Gascon army seized the fort and installed a garrison.
