La Fleur de Boüard is located in Lalande-de-Pomerol, a lesser-known but increasingly prestigious wine region in the Bordeaux region, known for producing excellent Merlot-based wines. The winery was founded in 1998 by Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, a co-owner of the famous Château Angélus in Saint-Émilion. His expertise and experience have contributed to the high quality of La Fleur de Boüard's wines. La Fleur de Boüard's vineyards cover approximately 25 hectares and are located on sandy and clayey soils, ideal for growing Merlot, the dominant grape variety in this region. La Fleur de Boüard's wines are made mainly from Merlot, supplemented with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. La Fleur de Boüard is known for its modern winemaking methods that combine traditional techniques with innovative technologies. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected to ensure the best quality. The wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks and then matured for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, a significant proportion of which are new. This gives the wine complexity and depth.

The 2019 Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard, 100% Merlot, is fantastic. Rich, opulent and beautifully textured, the Plus is absolutely captivating in 2019. Dark cherry, black plum, menthol, licorice and chocolate give the 2019 enormous depth

Château La Fleur de Boüard is an estate nestled in the heart of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation, close to the emblematic Château Pétrus. The estate offers an immersive experience to share the spirit of the place and bring out the winemaker’s soul.

Close to the confluence of the Dordogne and Isle rivers, the fertile soils of Château La Fleur de Boüard benefit from a sunny, warm and humid climate, ideal for growing vines. This mild climate favors early flowering. This is why the name “La Fleur” is so frequently used in the appellation.

FOUNDING INTUITION

Château La Fleur de Boüard was born when Hubert de Boüard, co-owner of the famous Château Angélus, fell for this terroir located on the hillside facing the finest Pomerol growths.Driven by the deep conviction that the terroirs of Lalande-de-Pomerol could produce exceptional wines worthy of the greatest Bordeaux appellations, he acquired the 25-hectare vineyard in 1998, now extended to 29 hectares. By adopting a precise and virtuous approach, the Fleur de Boüard team crafts wines of exceptional finesse.

BLOSSOMING OF THE VINEYARD

Every flower draws its strength from the earth that nourishes its roots. The great diversity of the vineyard’s soils gives this terroir a generous nature that is favourable for the estate’s mix of grape varieties, mostly Merlot, which are vinified plot by plot to refine their balance. Here there are gravel and clay subsoils. A high-quality soil, with an ideal composition for the vine. Hubert de Boüard, supported by his Technical Director Bryan Dessaint, employs all his know-how to ensure that this early-blossoming flower becomes a vibrant, fleshy fruit.

Through the continuous training of his teams, Hubert de Boüard, heir to the great founders of French oenology, passes on viticultural practices that combine tradition and modernity, but are always based on respect for the living world.
