Description
La Fleur de Boüard is located in Lalande-de-Pomerol, a lesser-known but increasingly prestigious wine region in the Bordeaux region, known for producing excellent Merlot-based wines. The winery was founded in 1998 by Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, a co-owner of the famous Château Angélus in Saint-Émilion. His expertise and experience have contributed to the high quality of La Fleur de Boüard's wines. La Fleur de Boüard's vineyards cover approximately 25 hectares and are located on sandy and clayey soils, ideal for growing Merlot, the dominant grape variety in this region. La Fleur de Boüard's wines are made mainly from Merlot, supplemented with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. La Fleur de Boüard is known for its modern winemaking methods that combine traditional techniques with innovative technologies. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected to ensure the best quality. The wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks and then matured for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, a significant proportion of which are new. This gives the wine complexity and depth.
The 2019 Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard, 100% Merlot, is fantastic. Rich, opulent and beautifully textured, the Plus is absolutely captivating in 2019. Dark cherry, black plum, menthol, licorice and chocolate give the 2019 enormous depth

Displaying a deep garnet-purple color, the 2019 Le Plus rolls effortlessly out of the glass with notes of plum preserves, fruitcake, redcurrant jelly and raspberry pie plus suggestions of candied violets, licorice and Ceylon tea. The medium-bodied palate has lovely poise, featuring mouth-coating red and black fruits with a velvety texture and seamless freshness, finishing long and perfumed.

The blue-fruit, black-chocolate and stone character is prevalent here. It’s medium-to full-bodied and nicely toned. Refined, yet structured.

From: 2019 Bordeaux from Bottle: The Two Towers (Feb 2022)
The 2019 Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard is packed with blackberry jam, chocolate, spice, new leather and licorice. It is the most sumptuous, flamboyant wine in the range. The Plus sees longer time in barrel than its siblings, hence my rating is in brackets. I am not entirely convinced of extended time in wood here, but we will see.

The 2019 Le Plus de la Fleur de Boüard has lost none of its intensity on the nose, which delivers powerful ripe black cherry and cassis aromas. The palate is bold, maybe even brash, displaying good depth and touches of tar and cedar toward the finish, which demands attention... but I prefer its more refined sibling, the La Fleur de Boüard (sans “Plus”).

From: 2019 Bordeaux: A Long, Strange Trip (Jun, 2020)
The 2019 Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard, 100% Merlot, is fabulous. Rich, sumptuous and beautifully textured, the Plus is absolutely riveting in 2019. Dark cherry, black plum, menthol, licorice and chocolate infuse the 2019 with tremendous depth and textural resonance. The only reason the 2019 does not have a higher score is because of my concern over its long èlevage, which I don't feel is necessarily a benefit. I was quite impressed with La Fleur de Boüard this year. The wines seem to have an added level of nuance and finesse to complement the richness they have always shown.

From: Uncertain Smile: Bordeaux 2019 (Jun 2020)
The 2019 Le Plus de la Fleur de Boüard has a typically intense and focused bouquet with black cherries, cassis and violet aromas that are lavished in some quality new oak. The palate is velvety smooth in texture with fine acidity. Plenty of intense black cherries mixed with white pepper and a touch of graphite. Powerful on the finish and yet I am seeking more personality to come through, more terroir expression. Impressive...but somehow distant.

Château La Fleur de Boüard is an estate nestled in the heart of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation, close to the emblematic Château Pétrus. The estate offers an immersive experience to share the spirit of the place and bring out the winemaker’s soul.
Close to the confluence of the Dordogne and Isle rivers, the fertile soils of Château La Fleur de Boüard benefit from a sunny, warm and humid climate, ideal for growing vines. This mild climate favors early flowering. This is why the name “La Fleur” is so frequently used in the appellation.
