Winery Château La Conseillante
Château La Conseillante is one of Pomerol's most iconic estates, located on the border with Saint-Émilion. Founded in the 18th century, the château is known for its elegant, velvety style, in which Merlot plays a prominent role. Under the leadership of Technical Director Marielle Cazaux, the focus in recent years has shifted even more strongly to precision, terroir expression, and refinement. La Conseillante's vineyards are situated on an exceptional combination of deep clay and gravelly soils. This location creates strength and concentration, as well as freshness and tension. The warm and dry 2022 growing season produced perfectly ripe grapes with impressive aromatic intensity and structure.
Vineyards and grape varieties
The 2022 vintage is composed of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc. Merlot gives the wine its velvety texture and opulent fruit expression, while Cabernet Franc provides aromatic lift, floral notes, and extra structure. Harvest took place from early to late September, at peak ripeness.
Harvest, vinification and maturation
After careful selection, the wine was aged in 70% new oak, 27% single-use barriques, and 3% amphora. This combination lends depth and complexity while fully preserving the purity of the fruit. The aging enhances the texture without disrupting the balance.
Color, smell and taste
Deep ruby red with purple highlights. The nose offers an intense and refined expression of mulberry, black raspberry, and plum, complemented by violets, mint, licorice, and subtle notes of truffle and spice.
The palate is full and silky smooth with a creamy, almost enveloping texture. The fruit is ripe and layered, supported by extremely fine, perfectly integrated tannins that provide length and structure. The balance between richness and precision is impressive, with a long, refined, and mineral finish.

The 2022 La Conseillante is just as exquisite in bottle as it was en primeur. Wafting from the glass with an exotic bouquet of mulberries, black raspberries and plums mingled with notions of black truffle, burning embers, violets, mint and licorice, it's full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a fleshy, even unctuous core of fruit underpinned by a broad chassis of sweet, powdery and perfectly integrated tannin. This is the most lavish, sensual La Conseillante of the last decade, with the most texture and density, yet it remains unerringly precise and harmonious. It's a blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc.

The 2022 La Conseillante is a gorgeous, racy wine. Pliant and super-expressive, La Conseillante is positively stellar. The 2022 is a vertical, statuesque Conseillante. As alluring as the 2022 is at this stage, it also clearly needs cellaring to be at its finest. Time in the glass releases the aromatics, along with brisk acids that keep things in check. Blood orange, lavender, spice, menthol and espresso linger on the sustained finish. Technical Director Marielle Cazaux turned out what is quite possibly the most elegant wine in Pomerol. The 2022 is one of my favorite recent vintages here. The 2022 was harvested from September 5th for Merlots through to the 20th, when the last Cabernet Franc was brought in. It was aged in 70% new wood, 27% once-filled barrels and 3% amphora.

The 2022 La Conseillante is simply fabulous and also clearly one of the wines of the year. Rich, racy and enveloping to the core, the 2022 is super-impressive in this tasting. In fact, the 2022 is one of the best recent vintages I can remember tasting. All the elements are so well balanced for a young wine. Readers will find a Pomerol of stature and total class. That’s all there is to it. The blend is 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc. Yields were 33 hectoliters per hectare, about normal these days. For readers who appreciate technical data, the balance of 14% alcohol and 3.66pH is an example of what makes the best wines of 2022 so compelling. This is a superb showing from Technical Director Marielle Cazaux and her team.

From: You’re Unbelievable: Bordeaux 2022 (May 2023)
The 2022 La Conseillante was picked at 33hL/ha between 5 and 20 September and raised in 70% new oak plus 30% in amphorae. There is 13.9% alcohol. This is quite discrete on the nose, just like L'Évangile, only really opening after several minutes. Blackberry, blueberry, hints of iris flower, perhaps more floral than L'Évangile and Cheval Blanc. The palate is medium-bodied with velvety tannins plus a fine bead of acidity. Fresh and focused, this is maybe less concentrated on the mid-palate than expected but that maintains an unerring sense of equilibrium. Tensile and very smooth with an underlying sense of strict like its aforementioned neighbors. A rough decant prizes this Pomerol open and reveals its inner core of mineralité. Anyone spending less than 15 minutes tasting this Pomerol is likely to have totally missed it. Saline both on the finish and aftertaste, Marielle Cazaux has crafted one of the most intellectual La Conseillante wines in recent years.

Located in Pomerol, Château La Conseillante has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. The name "La Conseillante" refers to the influential merchant Catherine Conseillan, who bought and expanded the estate. The 2022 La Conseillante is just as exquisite in bottle as it was en primeur. Wafting from the glass with an exotic bouquet of mulberries, black raspberries and plums mingled with notions of black truffle, burning embers, violets, mint and licorice, it's full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a fleshy, even unctuous core of fruit underpinned by a broad chassis of sweet, powdery and perfectly integrated tannin. This is the most lavish, sensual La Conseillante of the last decade, with the most texture and density, yet it remains unerringly precise and harmonious. It's a blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc.

This is sensational with extra fine tannins that run the length of the wine. It’s medium-bodied with excellent length and so Conseillante in nature. Silky, silky, silky. Creamy texture. Flowers such as violets at the end. Love this. 87% merlot and 13% cabernet franc.

The 2022 La Conseillante is a gorgeous, racy wine. Pliant and super-expressive, La Conseillante is positively stellar. The 2022 is a vertical, statuesque Conseillante. As alluring as the 2022 is at this stage, it also clearly needs cellaring to be at its finest. Time in the glass releases the aromatics, along with brisk acids that keep things in check. Blood orange, lavender, spice, menthol and espresso linger on the sustained finish. Technical Director Marielle Cazaux turned out what is quite possibly the most elegant wine in Pomerol. The 2022 is one of my favorite recent vintages here. The 2022 was harvested from September 5th for Merlots through to the 20th, when the last Cabernet Franc was brought in. It was aged in 70% new wood, 27% once-filled barrels and 3% amphora.

The 2022 La Conseillante is simply fabulous and also clearly one of the wines of the year. Rich, racy and enveloping to the core, the 2022 is super-impressive in this tasting. In fact, the 2022 is one of the best recent vintages I can remember tasting. All the elements are so well balanced for a young wine. Readers will find a Pomerol of stature and total class. That’s all there is to it. The blend is 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc. Yields were 33 hectoliters per hectare, about normal these days. For readers who appreciate technical data, the balance of 14% alcohol and 3.66pH is an example of what makes the best wines of 2022 so compelling. This is a superb showing from Technical Director Marielle Cazaux and her team.

From: You’re Unbelievable: Bordeaux 2022 (May 2023)
The 2022 La Conseillante was picked at 33hL/ha between 5 and 20 September and raised in 70% new oak plus 30% in amphorae. There is 13.9% alcohol. This is quite discrete on the nose, just like L'Évangile, only really opening after several minutes. Blackberry, blueberry, hints of iris flower, perhaps more floral than L'Évangile and Cheval Blanc. The palate is medium-bodied with velvety tannins plus a fine bead of acidity. Fresh and focused, this is maybe less concentrated on the mid-palate than expected but that maintains an unerring sense of equilibrium. Tensile and very smooth with an underlying sense of strict like its aforementioned neighbors. A rough decant prizes this Pomerol open and reveals its inner core of mineralité. Anyone spending less than 15 minutes tasting this Pomerol is likely to have totally missed it. Saline both on the finish and aftertaste, Marielle Cazaux has crafted one of the most intellectual La Conseillante wines in recent years.

Château La Conseillante
Located in Pomerol, Château La Conseillante has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. The name "La Conseillante" refers to the influential merchant Catherine Conseillan, who bought and expanded the estate. In 1871, it became the property of the Nicolas family, who have managed the vineyard with care for generations since.
Vineyard and Terroir
The La Conseillante vineyard covers 12 hectares and is located on both the Pomerol plateau and in the Saint-Émilion appellation. The soil consists of a mix of clay and gravel, with sub-soils rich in iron oxide. This unique terroir is ideal for growing Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which combine to produce wines with a smooth, creamy texture and distinctive power.
Environment
Since 2016, La Conseillante has taken significant steps to reduce their environmental impact. The estate has achieved ISO 14001 and HVE 3 certifications, which means they have high standards in the areas of biodiversity, disease control, and fertilizer and water management. They use more than 80% organic and/or biocontrol products and apply biodynamic agriculture and phytotherapy.
Vinification and Wine Styles
The wines of La Conseillante are characterized by their finesse, balance and silky texture. The vinification takes place in 22 concrete barrels, each corresponding to a specific plot. The wines are aged in 70% new oak barrels, 27% second-year barrels and 3% in amphoras. This approach ensures optimal expression of the terroir and a refined taste.
