2019 Château Canon-La Gaffelière St.-Emilion

This cru, owned by Mr. Stephan Von Neipperg, has been promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé since the new 2012 classification. Rightly so, because the owner has brought the quality very high through strict selections and low returns.

The 2019 Château Canon-La Gaffelière St.-Emilion is a blend of Merlot 49%, Cabernet Franc 39% and Cabernet Sauvignon 12%. The Château Canon la Gaffelière has a medium to deep garnet-purple color in the glass. The 2019 Canon la Gaffeliere opens with an incredibly evocative scent of lilac, cherry, raspberry, jasmine and Sichuan pepper over a core of ripe black plum, wild blueberry and dark chocolate with a hint of iron ore and cumin seeds. The medium to full-bodied palate reveals a fantastic intensity of blue and black fruit layers, supported by a rock solid frame of firm, fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, long ending with a firework of fruit, mineral and spicy nuances. An exciting wine from the start and one that needs to mature very well and you should definitely decant in its younger years. This is an asset for the basement.
